does anyone know where MSN 7 keeps the emoticons that i took by "adding" from the conversation windows? or actually where any of the built in emoticons are stored (if not hardcoded in..)

Err, what? Adding in your own emoticons? It doesn't matter where you save them if that's what you want to do... just browse to the location.

hmm. not exactly. see, theres a function in MSN7 that allows me to right click on someone else's smiley and "add" it so that i can use it later on. i just wanna know where these smilies are stored.

Oh, is that a special extension or something? I don't see that option in my MSN 7.

actually nope all u have to do is right click the emoticon that u want to steal and select add ^^

I have been wondering the same thing too, I need to do backup of these emoticons that I saved from friends.
