ive tried a lot of stuff, and even my friends think its pretty much impossible without a gameshark or online play.
i dont understand at all on how you can kill it. i think its called the Raphalos or something? i havent played it in a while because i got so frustrated.

Those are two sites with lots of information to read up on the monsters in specific. Do keep in mind that preparation is (more than) half the work in this game. Are you trying to kill a Rathalos? That's the huge red/brown dragon, isn't it? It's fast and ferocious, so you have to anticipate on this. Especially if you're alone, don't go running up him with a greatsword or a maul. Those weapons are too slow, especially in the beginning when you lack the power to stun or flinch them (stun will have them dazed, flinching means they rear back their head in pain, buying you a second or two).

In this games you sometimes simply have to admit your defeat and move on ;) My preferred weapon has always been a longsword, since it's pretty fast and you can move freely, while doing decent damage. You may want to focus on upgrading your weapons a bit and getting some better armor. Ceanataur Armor is highly recommended.

This one was my favorite for a long time, until I started to whoop some Tigrex butt. The advantage of Ceanataur is that it's relatively easy to get and offers very high protection. You might be able to get one of those bonus perks it gives, though at that point of the game it's kinda impossible still. It's a tad expensive though, but well worth it. Good luck :)

Upgrade your weapon and armor, Make clever use of trap and terrain, lure rathalos using the horn on the spot you're laying pitfall and barrel bomb (forgot the name) that should sap some of his health.

i did that. multiple times. including using a gameshark to have infinite barrel bombs and traps. i was literally hacking him for an hour (timed all the chances to attack together) and he still lived! it made no sense!

What are you hacking? And more importantly, what are you using to stab it? You can't expect to take it down with a kitchen knife. Rathalos is a tough bastard though, I think it gave even me a challenge while having a Devil Slicer and some Tigrex armor. On the other hand, I'm not an item user at all, I skip the bombs, though I enjoy using traps, allows for some nice chopping at the head.

Anyway, what are your weapons and armor?

Well I was mostly wondering which body parts he was hacking. I usually aim for the sensitive parts: First cutting off the tail, easy and a nice extra carve. Then I simply go for the head since it often hurts the most("Go for the eyes Boo! GO FOR THE EYES!!"), especially with these type of dragons. With these stoners it's more difficult though, since your blade might bounce off their hard horn or face armor.
