Memcard problem

Having problems with saving on the memcards, when I play ff9.
It says failed to write or something like that.
If I press f4 during the save process, it will sometimes save on the card. But often the save becomes corrupted.
And I am unable to load from them.
Do you know why this occur?
What can you do to stop this from happening, they worked fine just a week ago.
