I have searched all of the forums seeking out aid to the same problem plaguing many other people with this. I tried every single configuration I could find but not a single one has even improved the situation.

I'm running an ISO of MML2, its a .img file (I misplaced the CD). After the Capcom logo displays, the screen goes black, and after a few seconds, it flickers very dimly and I can just make out Mega Man Voulnutt, then it stays black. I have downloaded every single plugin I could find and tried random configurations, and many others from other people, but nothing seems to work.

My computer is considerably powerful, here are the specs:
ATI Mobility Radeon X800 Graphics card
2 gigs of RAM
Windows XP
Well, not sure what else you need but please ask if you are willing to help.

I've tried for about 7 or 8 hours today trying to get it work, please help.

Post your GPU settings. If you don't have a normal config you use for other games, try PEOPS OGL 2.7 on "Nice" first. If you have major problems with that, try Pete's Soft GPU plugin on "Nice". Also, is this a laptop system?

Yes this is a laptop (Sager), is that a problem? The plugin configs are just random right now from me trying configurations I've found online and such; it wouldn't do much good because it's just one I found online. I do have all of Pete's new plugins and have tried them on different settings, but nothing fixes it. Oh, and I don't have any other configurations because this is the first time I've used a PSX emulator.

Is there any more detailed or complete configuration you could suggest? Keep in mind that this is a powerful computer I'm talking about.

I tried searching for the plugins you suggested but I can't find them. Did you mean to say PEOPs Soft and Pete OGL? I looked at some PEOPs Soft plugins but none of them were version 2.7.

Edit: I tried using PEOPs Soft GPU 1.17 on fast and nice, but it still didn't fix the "black screen of death." However, on "nice" settings, the Capcom logo does display at a very nice speed, but it still turns black after that. I also tried Pete's OGL 1.76 on both settings, but still nothing..

Eh...sorry got it backwards... PEOPS spawned off of earlier versions of Pete's plugins, so there are many similarities in both function and configuration. the current version of the Soft Plugin is indeed "P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.17" the OpenGL "Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76" and OpenGL2 "Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.7" so those are the ones I meant for you to try out...sorry for the misunderstanding.

From my experiences with laptops, there are numerous unpredictable factors as to why things wont work... I will assume for the time being that you are using a gaming system based on the model of gfx card. Lemme do some research on the capabilities of your card, in the mean time a model number and/or system specs would help. If you give me a model number, tell me anything you had customized that might remotely apply to gaming (sound, video, audio, processor including architecture if available, chipset, anything else you think might be important). Also tell me what PC games you have running correctly, and any PC games you have problems with. Update your catalyst drivers if necessary.

EDIT: Stupid question removed.

After some research, I determined that you likely owned a NP9860 series notebook. For the GPU settings, I would suggest this:
Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.7
Author: Pete Bernert

Resolution/Color:
- 1280x960 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing
- Internal X resolution: 1
- Internal Y resolution: 2
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off
- No render-to-texture: off

- Filtering: 6
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- TexWin pixel shader: off
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 1
- Framebuffer effects: 3
- Framebuffer uploads: 1 (also try setting this to 2)

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Mdec filter: on
- Screen filtering: off
- Shader effects: 0/1
- Flicker-fix border size: 0
- GF4/XP crash fix: off
- Game fixes: off [00000000]

As far as other issues you might have with that series, Toshiba optical drives for notebook PCs are notorious for read problems, and I have seen one go out within 2 weeks of purchase before. If you got the NEC drive, you might be a little better off in this department. If you have succesfully made an ISO without errors this shouldnt be the issue, also since you got it somewhat working with the soft plugin. Sound plugin comes down to your preference between PEOPS and Eternal, as both are nice plugins with decent configuration options. Use the IOCTL (WNT/W2K) core or PEOPS CDR drivers if possible, use mooby with games that have CDDA audio tracks to run from ISO.

Would still be good to know if I got the series of notebook wrong, or what PC games have issues and which ones work. And update Catalyst if necessary (other than this stuff, you can mostly ignore my last post).

My laptop is brand new (really doubt I have to update). Actually, I did not get it customized for gaming, it's actually for the School of Engineering at Virginia Tech. I haven't put any games demanding an extremely powerful engine yet but I am fully confident that I can run them (WoW, Battlefield 2, etc). I have little games like StepMania and Soldat running flawlessly if that helps any.

Anyways, here are some specs I hope will help:
OS: windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
Manufacturer: CLEVO
System Model: D700T
BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL
Processor: Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4CPU 3.20 GHz
Direct X: 9.0c
RAM: 2064 megs (2 gigs)
GFX Card: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X800
Sound (not sure if this is what you're looking for): Realtek HDAudio (read output)

Hope that helps. Oh, and by the way, thank you very much for offering help.

I tried the configuration you suggested. Unfortunately, it did not work. It did seem to make the Capcom logo appear and disappear a little smoother though, but I still get stuck with a black screen after that. :(

Do you have any other ideas or configurations I could try based on the specs I posted?

Those specs were actually pretty close to the system I was looking at (which was indeed a multimedia system, not a gaming system), so I cannot really think of any better configs for it. If you can find the CD again, try using ISO Buster (free, google for it), CloneCD, or Alcohol 120% to make the image, try for a BIN (Extract RAW in ISO Buster) or IMG (default CloneCD, also available in Alcohol 120%) first, if that doesnt work, use an ISO (ISO Buster-Extract User Data, also available in Alcohol 120%). I often have to use ISOs on my system b/c one of my drives doesn't like RAW reading, but BIN/IMG images are typically more reliable. Keep the cue file around if your game has CDDA (CD Audio) tracks, and as stated above, mount in mooby for these games to get sound.

Also, try out some different games and see if they are playable, or try using SSSPSX or PSXEven to play it. Unfortunately, I do not have this game, so I can't really test anything. If you find another game that has a similar problem, I might be able to make it screw up on my PC so I will know how to fix it :D but I really think it has to do with a bad image of the game.

Oh, yeah, you can also turn on the FPS counter display in the GPU plugin and see if the framerate slows down significantly rather than an emulator hang. If it is going really slow, but not hanging then it is VERY likely a bad image, as it is trying to render a texture it cannot read. If it is reading at zero or normal speed (45-70 range) then there is still a chance it is a driver or config issue. If normal speed, see if you can interact with the game at all, even if nothing shows up. You might get some sounds or something, which means we need to work out a new configuration to make sure those things all show up.

Could not using the Mooby2 CDR plugin be causing the silent black screen? I'm not running it off of a CD though.

I already tried running it off of 3 other PSX emulators, but the same thing happens. I even tried running it off of different versions of those emulators, but the same thing happens. I'm beginning to suspect that the .img is damaged or something. But then again, I've heard of people that got it working with the same problem, so I really don't know.

I'll try your suggestion. If that doesn't work I might as well just go buy another copy I suppose. I looked on GameStop's site and found MML2 used for $30...wow. And then I looked up a used copy of MML...$4?

Sorry man, I can't think of anything else to try except to see if your original CD boots in another PC w/ emulator correctly. If not, it is probably a bad CD. If it does, it might be the CD drive's fault...

Help

I just downloaded Mega Man legends 2 off of Bit-torrent, little suggestion testing now myself, I did a scan on it using CDMage, and came up with 15900 corrupted sectors, so far it looks like I've fixed them all, and will test afterwards, but giving an update letting you know that may be your problem as well.

~update~

Even though all sectors were fixed, it still goes to the black screen trying a few other things for now, will update if I find a fix!
