I have wanted to convert to a .psv save for ages as well so I can play some games I started with ePSXe on my PS3. No luck finding a converter so far. Google searching for a possible converter brought up message board saves from 2006 and 2007 and apparently still nobody has cracked the encryption on .psv.

I know you can go from PCSX2 back to a PS3 by using your PS2 and action replay, then importing the memory card to the PS3 but no idea how to do it with a PS1 save though.

The way I do it is this: (from .mcr to the RAW file that the PS3 reads)

1. (a) Use PSX Game Edit 1.60 to load the .mcr file.
(b) Select the file you want to save. If you have plenty, do these steps for each file.
(c) Go to File-->Save Single Game Save (enter a name of your choice and save).
2. (a) Use PSX Raw Converter: Drag and drop the Single Game Save file you just created (.mcs) onto the PSX Raw Converter exe icon.
(b) A RAW file would now be created at the location of the .mcs file. It should have a name starting with BASLUS475607146 or something weird like that.
3. Copy the RAW file to your USB drive in the proper folder where PSone saves are located. I can't remember the folder path, just search it on the net.
4. Start your PS3, go to Memory card Utility and copy the RAW save file to the PSX Virtual memory card.

Now that should work. It works for me. If you need the 2 software above, just search it up.

I have the ability to:
> convert from RAW PSone saves to PS2 saves.
> convert from PS2 saves to RAW PSone saves.
> convert from RAW PSone saves to any MemCard file type e.g. .gme, .mcs, .mcr, .mc, etc.
> animate the PSone save icon
> create a PS2 icon

All the conversions can be done backwards as well. e.g. from PS3 PSX save to PSone save etc.

Simply put, PSV is unnecessary for PSone file transfer as my way works perfectly.

I've tried you're method and I can't seem to get it to work. My PS3 either doesn't recognize the save file or it shows up as corrupted. Any help would be great.

try loading it up in a real PlayStation 1 then re-save it. i don't think your header is right and that is what the hardware cares about if header is off your save data will be good but show up corrupt in on ps 2/3. ps1 is a little more tolerant

.MCS to PSone save-file for PS3:

NOTE: To convert a .MCR file (which is a Memory Card image that may contain more than one save-files) to a .MCS file (which is a single save-file), use "PSXGameEdit.exe" software.
1. Simply open up the PSXGameEdit application and drag the .MCR file unto it.
2. All the PSone save-files found on the .MCR file will be displayed.
3. Select one of the save-file by clicking on it once.
4. Go to FILE>>Save Single Game Save.
5. Give a name to the new .MCS file to be saved and save it.
6. Finish. Repeat for any other individual saves on the .MCR file.
7. Now use the .MCS file(s) in the below process to create a PSone RAW save-file that can be recognised by both the PS3 and the PSone/PSX.

Just to make sure that I can get it to work, I just tried a conversion to a PSone RAW save-file, then I copied it to the PS3 and it worked. So....here is my detailed instructions on how to copy a PSone Save-File to the PS3 HDD:

1. Convert the .MCS file to a RAW file using "PSXRawConverter.exe" by dragging the .MCS file unto the "PSXRC.exe" (RAW files don't have an extension like .mcs, .mcr, .txt etc.).
2. The RAW file's name should look something like this:
BASLUS-00939T2T6e94
(this name is an example only, and yours will be different as every name is unique to the save).
3. Now, open your USB drive (do not enter any folders).
4. Create a folder called "PS3" (without the quotes, must be all capital letters).
5. Inside that PS3 folder, create a folder called "SAVEDATA"(without the quotes, must be all capital letters).
6. Now, copy the RAW PSone Save-File and paste it inside that folder.
7. Boot up your PS3 and insert your USB drive into the PS3.
8. From the XMB, go to "Game" and under it, select "Saved Data Utility".
9. You will see your USB drive. Select it and you will see the PSone Save-File with icon as if it were on a PSone Memory Card.
10. Press triangle, select Copy. Select a virtual PSone Memory Card (you should have already created one), and it will paste the file there.
11. Finish.

Try copying a save-file for a game you own. Load up the PSone game and try loading the save as you would on a PSone. It should work.

By the way, if you want any of the converters stated above, PrivateMessage me.

I have been doing it right. Did you rename the file after you converted it to a raw file? I had to add .PSV to the end of it for the PS3 to pick it up. It still shows up as corrupted. Just so I can see if I can get it right, what game did you use?

try loading it up in a real PlayStation 1 then re-save it. i don't think your header is right and that is what the hardware cares about if header is off your save data will be good but show up corrupt in on ps 2/3. ps1 is a little more tolerant

I think you may be right. I do have the PS3 Memory Card Adapter. Do you know of any drivers to connect it to my PC?

I have tried this and when I select my flash drive from the ps3, it says there is no saved data. I did some playing, copying various saves from my ps3 to the flash stick and looking at it on my computer, the SAVEDATA folder is where the ps3 copies saves for ps3 games, not ps1 or ps2 games. it copies ps1 and 2 games into a folder called EXPORT, and a subfolder called PSV, and all the saves have a PSV extension. copying the mcs, or just mc, or the raw file output by the converter you suggested into any of these folders, or the SAVEDATA folder you suggested, shows no files when looking from within the ps3 xmb browser.

try loading it up in a real PlayStation 1 then re-save it. i don't think your header is right and that is what the hardware cares about if header is off your save data will be good but show up corrupt in on ps 2/3. ps1 is a little more tolerant

Actually I only did the first part of the process and I assumed the rest, my bad. I'll do everything over. There are many things I do so I must've gotten mixed up. I use ULaunchElf to transfer PSone and PS2 files back and forth from Memory Cards (PS2/PSone) to USB. I use the PS3 Memory Card Adapter to transfer PSone/PS2 files from PS3 to PS2/PSone Memory Card. I use many different converters to convert between formats. I'm terribly terribly sorry if I mixed everyone up. But for the process of transferring from PS3 to PSone and vice-versa, I think the only way is the PS3 Memory Card Adapter.

Again sorry, but I'll do that part over and may even record it to youtube. I really thought that that process above was what I did. I'll reply with my correct methods in a few days or less.

Out of curiosity, what game are you trying to get the save for? I just bought myself an old PS1 console so that I can get myself a cheater gamesave for the FF games to have everyone start out at max stats... I love the stories of the FF games but im not as fond of turn based gameplay... when I get them done I'm going to post them on GameFAQs or anywhere else I can think of... but if its a game I own I'll do my best to get you a duplicate save

For the love of god, someone help me!

I used a save modifier called Hyne to modify a PSV save to give me the things i needed. Now, I've tried like hell to find the raw converter needed to make the PS/pS3 save file work, but I cant find the bloody thing anywhere. IM DESPERATE AND WOULDNT ASK THIS OTHERWISE.... can SOMEONE... ANYONE that knows how to transfer psv to raw file type, PLEASE email me with the stupid converter.... Or even better, would someone mind MODIFYING the file FOR ME. If I'm reading this topic right, the PS3 does read raw save files, and I have no other known way to be able to get the save I modded up and running back on the PS3. E-mail me at [email protected] and I will supply the psv file i'm trying to re-insert into the ps3. PLEASE HELP :( I need this!

Okay, i preformed the above steps EXACTLY for both programs. Why is it still not working? I even went as far as trying to change the file name of the RAW to a .PSV format in hopes that it would recognize it.

Trying to create a save file for Grandia with Max Gold at the start of the game, so i can move through the story a little faster. I already beat it without cheating once back in the day.

I went from .mcr to .mcs to RAW.. and even tried doing RAW to .psv.

What could i be doing wrong?

This seems like it should work, so perhaps i missed something?

I have a 320 gig PS3 with the latest update. So any extra advice or suggestions would greatly help. I have spent 5 hours looking up info on this lol. Btw, this is for the PSN Store version.

Oh, i have the PS3 Memory Card adapter.. i will try that as well, but looking for advice first. I can't even get the PS3 to display the file even though its on the flash drive.

PSV files contain a digital signature which PS3 must verify in order to load a save.
PSV file itself is not encrypted so it can be easily imported (I just ignore signature) but the signing process (to my knowledge) is still not known and therefore cannot be recreated in MemcardRex.

It seems to be known, but nobody's taken the time to write a tool to deal with it:

http://wiki.ps3dev.net/wiki/Game_Saves#PS1_Single_Save_.3F_.28.PSV.29

I asked around a while back and was told this info can decrypt the key seed:

key: AB5ABC9FC1F49DE6A051DBAEFA518859
iv: B30FFEEDB7DC5EB7133DA60D1B6B2CDC
algorithm aes-128-cbc

And iirc the SHA-1 digest was a SHA-1 of the entire memory card image the save comes from.

I've been busy helping with PPSSPP, so I haven't had time to mess with any MCR to PSV sutff.
