BOSTON - On April 25, Gregory Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood. U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons and fingerprinted Despres. Then they let him into the United States.

The following day, a gruesome scene was discovered in Despres' hometown of Minto, New Brunswick: The decapitated body of a 74-year-old country musician named Frederick Fulton was found on Fulton's kitchen floor. His head was in a pillowcase under a kitchen table. His common-law wife was discovered stabbed to death in a bedroom.

I can see that Homeland Security is working well.

Maybe the terrorists should wear blood stained hockey masks and cross the border carrying bombs in each hand.

Homeland security works perfectly. You see, homeland security was never intended to stop crimes, it was intended to fabricate terrorist plots to keep the US citizens too scared not to vote Republican. As of yet, homeland security has not made one single terrorist arrest that has led to a conviction. It has however, cost millions of the tax payers' money. And this from the political party that accuses the Democrats of overspending? Why don't they just call in a few bomb threats every once in a while and have done with it?

well eventually they caught him... geez, not even making a background check on him earlier...

"In state court the next day, Despres told a judge that he is affiliated with NASA and was on his way to a Marine Corps base in Kansas at the time of his arrest."

- now this is a nice alibi...

department of homeland security is almost a complete joke.. But to blame this on Bush or the republican party is rediculus. The whole republican party can't be sitting in boarders and watch who comes in and out (when only a handful DID on the southern boarder the democrats were crying foul). Lets put this into perspective. You all are idiologs uncapable of seeing past partisan politics. The boarder security did everything they could legally. There were no warrent for his arrest, he was a US citizen, they HAD to let him into the country. They took his weapons but that was about all they could do and if they did any more i'm sure that all those whiney ass liberals would be CRYING about civil rights and you all KNOW it's the truth.

Perhaps these couple of paragraphics RZLetin left out puts more perspective on what happened

Anthony said Despres was questioned for two hours before he was released. During that time, he said, customs agents employed "every conceivable method" to check for warrants or see if Despres had broken any laws in trying to re-enter the country.

"Nobody asked us to detain him," Anthony said. "Being bizarre is not a reason to keep somebody out of this country or lock them up. ... We are governed by laws and regulations, and he did not violate any regulations."

That's not the only solution.

There was only one tiny post on politics before you came along. You did nothing to prevent partisan politics when you spoke of liberals crying, democrats crying foul, or blaming the republicans.

I agree. This whole incidence was just bad circumstances.

Let's actually look past politics, like you said, and just agree that this is a horrible tragedy that couldn't have been prevented.

Yes, because a blood-soaked chainsaw isn't worthy of probable cause at all.

Something could have been done. It wasn't because of the bureaucratic system America forces people to live in.

Homeland Security is the republican's doing, so I fail to see how we cannot blame them for creating trash.

Look who's talking; the guy who is always making anti-liberal rants and criticizing democrats...

Back on topic: there's nothing they could do about it, really. Fortunately he was caught.
