Well, after I (along with other guys) became translators we had no other job to do. It's really so boring having all these stars without something to make us worthy .

I thought of an idea. I hope you think of, or at least put in consideration for future plans .
The main page of NGEmu, why not making it with several languages. And then we can put a small bar to change the language to whatever comforts our guest ^^ . The easy part is translating the links and main head bars. Which every translator of us won't think of as a big deal.

But the hard part (Which I'm up for it myself) is translating the important articles posted at the main page.

Thx for reading.

Impossible to navigate ... then one translator stops to translate regularly, then you need to run after him. Then one translators doesn't translate properly, and, and, and ...

It's a very good idea, but I doubt it can be done - it's already hard enough to motivate the posters to keep the page updated in english, let along other languages.

posting in english is a standard. there are other emulation websites that are localized to other languages that do the translations for us.

It's a good idea, but personally I don't think the effort will outweigh the comfort of being able to read it in your own language.

Like said there will always be small things changed unnoticed because of translation, which might cause confusion on the forums when certain members will refer to what has been posted in their native language.

I don't even want to read things in Dutch cause I prefer the English language, it sounds more official and less amateur to me in a certain way. When I read something in dutch and I can find it's english source after that, I always read the english article to see if I missed out on something.

And I think that most people who have the age to use emulators on their own, are able to read and speak English at least half decently so they wouldn't need their own language. If 7 year-olds are able to read the news, and clicking along to the forum and start posting stuff in their own language in their utter n00bness...

Or is that all too far fetched?? :p

It wouldn't matter that much for us english speking people, but it'd surely be great for everyone that doesn't know english at all.... I mean there aren't many great emulation sites like ngemu, don't think they'd care that much if it wasn't always update as much as the english one with perfect translation.

we could have a big red stop sign in the users own language if they try to join the forum that says ONLY ENGLISH ALLOWED IN FORUM. or some such

actually http://www.msx.org does seem to manage quite nicely. Just to show an example.

converting the static language and some of the basic dynamic stuff would be pretty easy, but I can see where the trouble and time consuming part would come into play. Doing all the other dynamic content would be a ***** to manage and maintain. Especially if the content is being added on a regular and frequent basis such as news posts.

Converting over the static language (ones that never really change such as menus, file information, and other text) could be done and I think if the demand is there it would be a cool idea with the proper support. The dynamic stuff such as news would be a bit of a challenge, but if supported correctly would be nice.

converting newsposts would be an extreme pain. really there are a lot of websites out that are written in different languages to suit their own needs. the server was just fixed and the site up to 100% and you are suggesting a giant overhaul and many more hours to translate each post so that we can conform to everyones needs... not to mention no one mentioned how many languages to translate to.... Do we translate to what one might consider the top 5? 10? Translate it to all languages? It was a pain getting the rules for the forums translated and it would be a full time job to translate daily news posts. Unless you plan on giving up a lot of money to pay professional translaters i say to **** can this whole idea.

Maybe some sub-forums for other languages, but then we would need to take on more staff who speak thoes languages to moderate such things. Imo multiple languages would get disorganized, messy and even more trouble than its worth.

Maybe like keith touched on, the static stuff such as guides and emulator pages could be translated, but imo the forum should stay strictly english.

I don't think so Cid ;) . If that's the matter we wouldn't have needed to translate the rules in first place ;)
Well you have a point there, let's just say I leave the decision up to bobbi. If samor says it can be done in a nice way who am I to oppose.

If we can get some forum members to do the news translation it wouldn't be a big problem. But it's quite an organization to get a different member to translate things on daily basis. But IMHO the most important news is the news in English, all the other languages should be seen as extras and let's say they should have a few days to get translated. Not every translator might be able to come online on a daily basis.

Yes it'll take hours to translate, but why are you complaining ? Are you going to translate any?
Plus I suggested translating the important articles only.

We aren't better than many other sites. Even Google released their email service as a beta at the start. So why not give it a chance.

Yes I know it'll be pain, but on the same time it'll be a very nice attempt.
And about how many languages to translate : How many translators do you have ? All you have to do is to ask which of them can do it.

And as I've stated above, it's a wrong idea to translate the forums.

Side note : I hope you are considering the good points as much as you are considering the hard task.
