Well, I read every help file for ePSXe and this preoblem still occurs.

When I start ANY game, I get a quick error screen that says something like ILLEGAL OPERATION: MODULE 347260 or something. Then my monitor goes black and freezes.

I tried to reinstall the emulator and everything with it but with no prevail. I have a very fast PC so I don't think thats the problem.

Help.

I have a Thunderbird 1.2 Ghz.
128 PC-133 RAM
Panasonic Rythmic Edge Sound Card
Voodoo 3000 (PCI)
Some cheap 50x DC-ROM which only runs at like 4
It all runs on win 98 SE
Direct X 8. I'm using Lewy's Glide

I put in Metal Slug X and I get to the opening screen the it just freezes.

HELP.

try using Pete's plugins, I have a voodoo 3000 PCI myself, and I find that Lewpy's gives me good performance with 3D based games while Pete's gives me good performance with 2d (sprite based). Try that.

dammit

Nope that won't work either. It just goes to a lack screen and freezes up the PC.

Nothing will work. I tried everything. Reinstalling windows, the emulator, the plugins and even redownloaded the latest drivers for everyhting. I even read all the old threads.

I so freaking depressed. I really wanted a playstation emulator. I don't even care if it's black and white. I JUST WANT IT TO WORK.

Try going back to an earlier version of directX I have seen a link to a program that will allow you to doit. You might also have bad memory chips in your system.

Wouldn't that be just going TOO far? For that price I'll just gladly pay for (sigh) Bleem!.
When ePSXe was coded, I can tell it wasn't done well. ePSXe is only good because of the plugins. There really shouldn't be a large message board dedicated to solving problem to make the thing work properly. Don't you agree?

OK try this:
Configure ePSXe with a bios and Video plugin, set the sound and cdrom plugin to null or none and game pad to a default keyboard layout.
Then start ePSXe and select run bios. If you see the Sony logo then it's not a video problem.
Exit ePSXe and add a configuration for sound (Try the internal SPU first)
Re run the bios and if it errors out, try a different SPU, if it still errors out you know it's a soundcard driver issue. if it doesn't error out and you have video and sound then go back in and add a CDrom plugin. (Try the internal one first) be sure to set the drive letter on both the plugins configuration and ePSXe's cd rom configuration screen.
Put in a PSX cd and select run cd. If it errors out, try another Cdrom plugin. if none work, then you know it's either the PSX game (Try a different one) or a cdrom drive problem.

The easiest way to fix a problem is to go through elimination.

Windows 2000 works perfectly well with ePSXe.

>Don't you agree?
No, seeing as how ePSXe is both free and developed only as a hobby. Given that the developers get *no* money for it, I really don't think it's fair to say that just because it won't work on your hardware that it's a poor piece of code. Given that we don't have the source code I can't say if it's programmed well or not, but given that it's reasonably fast, stable, and small, I'm willing to bet that a good deal of thought was put into its development.

Wow, I used "given" far too many times in that paragraph.

I must agree w/cluthu. ePSXe is free and is being developed all the time. bleem! hasn't had a new update for over a year now. All bleem! is interested in is bleem! for DreamCast and Sony is giving them problems over that. ePSXe runs perfectly on my system, I have little or no problems at all. The difference in the games is remarkable. Gauntlet Legends looks better than the arcade and Quake 2 is clearer and sharper than the PC version. Do as Depence suggested and go through the process of elemination, it is time consuming but it works.
Another thing, please do not downgrade an emulator just because it does not work on your system. The authors never promised that it would. Even bleem! never promised that it would work on all systems, they just said that it should. If you are having a problem, it more like a system incompatability w/the emulator, rather than the emulator itself.
Lastly, when you get the black screen, try pressing F4 by itself, as was suggested, or try pressing F5 and the F4 (F5 first) and see if that helps. Some games require on or the other to run. Gauntlet Legends is one of these games. Without pressing F4 it will not load. Best of luck.
sincerely,

None of this is working. I tried absolutely every plugin. And I have over 2MB of them. I do get the SOny logo. And I do get sound at the logo. It's not the game because I'm trying all the common ones that everybody else is using.

It is true that ePSXe is free. But it's still a peice of crap. If it was well coded, then the guys would be smart enough to charge for it. There shouldn't be problem like "won't work with your hardware". As I browse through this board, I don't think it works well with ANY peice of hardware.

I never ran into an emulator "that just won't work". I couldn't imagine a world where random software only works with random PCs.

Nevermind, now the logo doesn't FEEL like working either. Now it just freezes at black.

Believe me, there is probably no person on this board that want his emulator to work than me.

On the other hand, Those Playstation movie/music viewer work fine on my PC. And I did have have a Saturn emulator working so I know my CD-Drive is not to blame.

Welcome to the real world. I'm sorry if that sounds rude, but developing software is no easy task. There are endless different configurations of PC's out there, do you think it's possible to test something on ALL of them?

Oh, and here's another thing: It's not an easy task to code an emu for ANY system. Anyone who can code a PSX emu capable of running in the current computers deserves a little, no, a LOT more respect. Even if it ran a single game at 10FPS.

Just one more thing, if you don't like ePSXe, don't use it! Go get Bleem, CVGS, FPSE, AdriPSX, ...

Yeah, ePSXe doesn't work for me either. It won't even unzip. Of course, my computer doesn't even know what a zip is, because it's an Apple 2e.

But ePSXe must suck, because it won't run on my machine. Even though I've read numerous posts from numerous folks who are incredibly happy with this peice of FREE software, people that are apparently ecstatic about the ability to play PSX games on a, what do they call it, PC? People who are satisfied with whatever they get, because it's really FREE, not just kind of FREE.

Those people must be stupid, because my Apple 2e just won't run ePSXe.
