I have played disc 1 right through and changed to disc 2. Unfortunately the sound no longer works. Then when i try to go down the large 45deg platform lift, a cut scene starts then the whole thing locks. I can still hit esc to drop back to the desktop though.

I have tried the disc in another PC - same effect. I tried running it as an iso - same effect. It works on a real PSX though

This is a UK pal disc

Any ideas ?

Yea, I've got the same problem (just reached disc2 today)... what i'm wondering is how many of these problems are well known bugs within epsxe? probably all of them o_O

No, its not a well known problem.. MGS runs almost perfectly for me using petes new direct sound spu with spu irq.. I passsed that part without any problems.. I have the US ntsc version of the game.. You could try the 7502 bios, use differenct cd rom pluggin, or update your vid card drivers if you haven't done so.. I use win98se..

Well I'm running an NTSC set of discs...

w2k
athlon 1.1ghz
256mb ram
geforce2 gts

pete's 1.11 dsound spu
pete's 1.52 ogl
built-in w2k cdrom drivers

When you change discs... you hit esc, hit the change disc menu option, then hit ok, yes?

Update: Hm it seems sound never works after hitting esc... even if i hit esc and then hit continue the sound will die until i restart

sounds like it could be the bios, but usually using the wrong bios will cause the game unbootable...are you running a cdr copy?

Problems here too

Ok everyone ,after playing so many playstation games I finally decided to get Metal Gear Solid(bit strange coz i think its considered as best game of all times).

I have heard and seen numerous problems in running mgs on an emulator.I know these have been discussed time and again and I could have asked the question at many places but it would be very helpful if someone gives a reply here.

Ok so I just started the game yesterday so no question yet about disc change.Lets start from scratch.

I started the game using petes d3d plugin 1.52 and epsxe 1.4.

1.FMVs dont show up.Sound is there but no picture. They do appear in bleem, cvgs. They do appear using petes soft plugin, segu d3d plugin.A bug in pete's d3d plugin?Cant be !! Pete is an expert. So whats wrong?

2.Ok lets play using petes soft plugin or any other plugin that shows fmv .Hmm fmv is not continuous. It hangs for some milliseconds ,a cd icon appears on upper right corner and then it continues. So is it a problem?Cd drive cant be slow,I am using an iso.

3.Ok Play again using pete's d3d plugin(who wants to see the fmvs).Wow the game looks beautiful.Oh my god! Guards see you , alarm is raised .As soon as guards start chasing game slows down by about 5 fps(strange?)Dodge the guards and speed is back to normal.(This is a problem I guess or is it?)

So there is that much for first hour with mgs.I have already read about those stuttering sound then those text/sound disorder and possible solutions in petes spu txt.

At last, I am using intel 810 based chipset with integrated graphics and sound on a celeron 500 with 64 mb ram and windows me.

And yes the game plays absolutely perfectly in cvgs(But I hope I am not forced to play it on cvgs).

[All those thinking I am repeating the question from some other post are wrong.I took Bgnome's permission before writing it here. The earlier thread where it was posted was closed due to someone else's stupid mistake]

well.. I think pete did mention in the readme that comes with his new direct sound pluggin that a very fast computer is required to run MGS with near perfect sound.. Framebuffer effects in this game will be extremely slow unless you have a very fast comp.. I got a tbird [email protected] mhz and the game still slows down a tad bit when those scenes happen.. Not the 5 fps you get but its still noticable.. But not unplayable.. Fmv has problems with MGS in epsxe 1.4.. I have heard someone say that epsxe 1.01 plays MGS better.. To even play MGS without crashes is to disable MDECS.. There are certain parts in the game where FULL MOtion video is used and those parts are where MGS will crash.. The real time conversation scenes still work but they may slow down because of the heavy use of framebuffer effects..

I get near perfect gameplay and sound now using petes direct sound pluggin and lewpys glide pluggin..

Yep ! I use Pete's OGL 1.53 and Direct Sound 1.11 plug-in and the game is now near perfection.

About the sound disappearance when changing CD ROM, the only way to get some sound is to save the game in the "normal" way: by accessing the memory card. Then, quit the game, launch CD 2 and then loading the game.

Don't get me wrong.

Even without using save sates, you have this sound problem when you change CD.

Fortunately, the game offers the possibility to be launched directly from CD 2 and with the little trick I explained above, you can have the sound again.
