i love it.
Looks cool :D

A Kensington lock in the security slot keeps the machines from walking away by themselves.
Look at what they say under "Upgrade Your School Lab"!!! What are they implying!! :p
im not much of a mac fan, but those dont look half bad. small, compact, definately more efficient than pc mini's.
it's great for people that want a mac. other than that, it sucks. for one, it's a mac, which ineherently puts it pretty damn far back. it also has a slow processor, 256mb ram and a crappy videocard. i do give them credit though for squeezing USB2.0, firewire, a DVI port, and ethernet on there. for a mac, it aint half bad.

i wonder what the upgrading oppurtunies for that are....

Keep in mind a 1.45Ghz mac processor shouldnt be compared with an X86 equivalent. Its video card is garbage though.
oh, i know that chrisray, im not THAT dumb. i dont expect you to be like "wtf your CPU is only at 2.15 ghz i know my P4 at 2.5 is way bettrez". but still, it's a G4. perhaps if it was the similar clocked G5, ok sounds good. but a 1.2/1.4ghz G4 is....meh.

although, it's perfect for what they are suggesting, which is the regular family who wants to write essays, browse the web, use their iPods, etc. in that case--i think it's a great idea. i've seen grown men who rub their proverbial vaginas to Apple products all day. to slap a cheap little thing on your desk for 500 bucks, not a bad deal. of course, i'd have to go with the 599 version (1.45ghz, 80gb hdd..) and then upgrade to a gig of RAM, bluetooth, airport extreme, get the wireless keyboard and mouse...and then it starts to not cost $500 anymore
1.45 Ghz g4 is roughly equal to a 3 Ghz p4......its not really all that slow. The only gripes I have with it are the video (which in reality isn't that bad considering it wouldn't REALLY be used for a gaming machine anyway) although I'm not sure if that small of a video card can handle some of the more in depth features of the soon-to-be released tiger, and the fact that there is only one ram slot wich is not user servacible, so you would have to have apple upgrade your memory. Everything else is perfect.
Well personally 10 years ago I wouldn't have used a mac if you paid me. 5 years ago I'd said never ever buy anything from apple. Yet 6 months ago I bought my ipod, and now currently I'm typing this up on the shiny new ibook I bought yesturday:D ( I needed a unix based laptop and it's the best solution).

Anyways given the current climate this is a wise move for them. They have gained wider popularity with the ipod. Most direct comparision will be with media center based pc's, and put into that contex it's a pretty attractive purchase ;).

However this doesn't mean I'm ditching my athlon 64 in the morning ;).
Valcrist, you're kidding me right? an old G4 being equivalent to a 3ghz P4? maybe the 1.8ghz G5....but the G4 is old and soggy, no G4 will compete with an intel 3ghz processor.
how are u guys comparing a p4 and a mac neway? isnt it like comparing ps2 and xbox?
Wow, I never like their computers, but I wouldn't mind getting one of them just to learn it and have some different. I'm not even going to touch the Comparison with the P4 and G4....
Indeed. The specs are irrelevant by and large. The PC is a monster and monsterly upgradable, but the Mac tries to do it with finesse. As already pointed out, Macs are liked for purposes other than real computing tasks (like gaming, emulation, and gaming) owing to thier simplicity and reputation for being more stable than an equivalent MS product (that said, this reputation was gained in the the earlier days of Winblows, when it was less stable than an italian taxi driver stuck behind two nuns in a morris minor)
1.45 Ghz g4 is roughly equal to a 3 Ghz p4
This is MAC marketing. I *own* a P4 3.0ghz AND I own a G4 1.25ghz. When I say "The P4 absolutely stomps the G4 in every conceivable action by an incredibly wide margin" I mean it. The G4 feels like a P3. It was common knowledge around the time that Apple started with these "benchmark claims" that it was proven that they chose some of the most insignificant benchmarks (like the time to process one particular type of action in Photoshop) and the G4 was .001% faster and OH MY GOD THE G4 IS FASTER THAN A P4! Believe me, in real-world use the G4 is no P4.
well it was just a rough guess, I have a old ibook with a G3 in it. And it blew away my 1.5 ghz p4 in every way. Soooooo it was just a rough estimate....anyway, moving along.
Does your 1.5ghz p4 happen to be the crappy model (forgot which one)? :p
and did you have 1 million programs loaded in your system tray and don't know what msconfig is? Never defrag your drive and click Yes evertime something pops up in a brower?
Good for the casual Mac user, but really? Would any of us here use that? No! We're way too power hungry :p

...if you mean willy then yes but still....it was twice as fast...

and NO, because I always keep my systems nice and clean :p, and have next to nothing in the startup
