Low FPS, used to be OK.

Hey there. I've got a problem with GT2. The FPS are like 12-13 and it's really terrible. I use Pete's OpenGL Driver 2.5. But I'm really confused because the game used to run ok before I reinstalled Win XP SP1. I tried setting the settins to "Fast" but it's still the same. I've got latest NVidia Driverz too.

My PC Specz:
1.7Ghz Celeron
GF4 MX440 64 mb
256 DDR
Sound card - Creative SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit

What could be the problem ?

Use Pete's OGL 1.75.
The latest Forceware drivers for nVidia can cause problems for your card. Try installing a older driver.

celeron.... and GF4mx... those are okay, but it would be better if you had something more powerfull

of course it would be better

but MX440 and a celeron are enough to emulate PSX.

k I installed older nvidia driverz - 66.93 but it's the same. Tried Pete's OGL 1.75 - same. :| And btw my PC's 3 years old, and I know it's slow but I dun have any money right now for upgrades or new PCz.

Any other suggestions ?

"Older drivers" was more on the line of 4X.XX, more suitable for a 4 series like yours. Try using peops gpu plugin. If the problem remains, it's definitely not a graphics issue. Start trying with an ISO then, and report back here.

k I tried peop's gpu plugin and the fps seems to be ok, everything is nice except that the screen is in the center of the monitor, and around it it's black. And after a while it becomes "slim", with the top and down lines at the end of the screen, but the side lines are away from the end. And everything is kinda slim. I dunno if you can understand me. :|
I'm running the game from an image already, and it was ok before reinstall.

Oh and btw 4*.** drivers are way too old. I dun think it would help, when I played it ok with 71.** before I reinstalled Win XP. :\

Not older than your card. Videocard manufacturers make driver improvements mainly for the current generation of chipsets they have on the streets. The 4x.xx were developed along the geforce 4 series. 5x.xx were released with the geforce FX (5) series, and so they were optimized for them. Then the geforce 6 series came out and 6x.xx saluted them. Now you have 7x.xx, what is somewhat agaisn't the usual way things are done, but i think you get the point. You'll face 0 improvements using so new drivers, and sometimes they even work worse for older cards, because, simply put, they don't care about them anymore. They'd rather have you buy a new one than use yours for years and years.

To solve the problem with peops, play with the stretching options. Anyway, if peops is working well, your videocard isn't configured properly. Either an old installation of the drivers is conflicting with your current ones, or some other kind of problem arised. Try seraching the net for some driver cleaning utility for nvidia, and then reinstall. Be sure to disable any kind of anisotropic filtering ro antialiasing.

Remember that GeForce 4 MX cards are basically overclocked GeForce 2 cards so you can use even older drivers, like the 28.32's and 30.82's. Either of those or the 4x.xx would work quite well with your card (I used the 4x.xx's with my MX 420) but the 28-30.xx are preferable.

Sure. I applied different stretchings but they all reduced the FPS to ~30. :\

Then it's that your machine can't handle it. If it worked fine before, either SP1 is screwing you, or you are running more background programs than the last time. You can try killing any other other tasks than epsxe through the task manager, to see if it helps.

Well I had SP1 before. And it worked fine so my machine could handle it before. :\ I tried closing all programs and it was still like that. 30 fps ... :| Now I'm convincing my father I need to upgrade my PC.

its not caused by your comp but by those drivers instal as old as u can a then instal 6X.XX these should work fine i have same GF and this worked for me also reinstal DirectX

What ? My machine is P4 1.8 Ghz and GF4mx400 128 mb with 256 mb ram. And I run games on 1280*960 32 bit with the nice settings of Pete's D3d plugin (and Hi-res 2xSai enabled too) . And it's 55+ FPS . Sure there is something wrong you've made. Maybe wrong drivers. It's not the cpu at all, unless you've made some random settings which can't be put together.

Even my old PC was able to run PSX games with average 30 FPS on 1024*768 on Voodoo2 sli 32 mb and AMD K6-2 500 MHZ and 56 mb ram.

try pressing the fast preset and then turning on FPS limit. there you go. if stuff is missing you can turn up offscreen drawing
