I really wanna replace my old MX 440, and i have waited the prices to go down, as ive been told the 5200 is no good.

Now this card have a good price.

I wanna know if this card is based on the 5200 OC´ed or a 5600 downclocked and other less stuff.

The 5500 is essentially an overclocked 5200.. not sure about the performance gain from a 5200, but it's certainly an upgrade from an MX 440.

eh, it's basically a 5200. a 5200 ultra will be around the same as a standard 5600 (5200u is something like 350/500 while my 5600 is 325/500, stock of course)...i'd say the 5500 might be a BIT above a 5200, but a 5200 ultra or a 5600 would crush it. overall, a 5500 is only worth it if you are paying on the low side of 40-50 USD.

Nahhh... you'd better get a FX5200u (something as mine) and do a little OC :)

The Ultra ones are rare in here, and the ones who sold´em do very expensive. Most cards here are SE and LE, just the basic ones.

The 5600/5700 are way too expensive here, no way im gonna pay R$ 600 reais to get one!!(where U$1 dollar= R$ 2,90 reais)

The price diff from the 5500 to the 5200 is very low. Besides ill never use the DVi/dual monitor thing.

Im really into buying this one....

Wait, I think you have a mistake, if 1$ = R$ 290, then the card almost costs 3$.... isnt that a little cheap :\ ?

He said 2,90. He lives in a country that uses the comma as a decimal marker.

Mad, I too am about to replace my mx440. I was getting 5200 ultra but it became out of stock. Now I cant decide what to get ? 5200 is worse than mx440. Real reason for my upgrade is games like silent hill 3 & 4 , pop sands of time and other pixel shader requiring games.
May be I will get a new 9200se 128 mb ddr coz I am getting it real cheap. Infact I wont have to pay a single penny above my current mx440se 64 mb ddr. (Now thats what I call a great deal).

The clock of a 5200u is 250/350, and it may just be me, but it overheats like crazy at that speed. It also has some problems running current games with good-medium settings. FFXI can run at 1024x768 with just about everything maxed. The caveat? No weather effects or bump mapping (you can try and bump map but, in dense areas you get very low framerates). BF: V, despite its large amount of bugs, can sort of run on low settings (although I have reason to believe that it is the game programming and not the card). Doom III can run on medium at 640x480-800x600 (it will overheat quickly on 800x600 but, if you underclock it about 20mhz it runs perfectly).

On the upshot, its excellent for all types of current emulation. I can jack up all the settings for just about every game and get 60 FPS. Don't know about next gen emulation, though. ;\

Also, this is a PNY 5200u.

In conclusion... get the 5600.

As a note: I only have about 5 minutes of actual playtime on BF: V so don't hold me to that rating. BF: V is set up so that you get in about two minutes per session. Then you get a crash to desktop. :|

Another you should remember is that for Nvidia:
XT = Bad
Ultra = good
but for ATi
Pro = bad
XT = good
Anyone heard this? It'S a marketing scheme by Nvidia to trick customers. But for me I would got for the 5600 ultra of 5700.

I've got a 5200 non ultra and it's running at 300/500. It got REALLY hot at stock speeds with the HS/Fan that it came with. Since installing an Athlon XP HS/Fan, and a my CPU fan blowing on the back of the die, it barely gets warm. I payed under $100 canadian for this card, and I'm really liking it.

you are fairly off there bud.

nvidia:
LE=Bad
XT=Better
standard=ie no extra label just 5600, or 5700...
Ultra=Best

radeon:
SE=Bad
standard=ie no extra label just 9700, 9800...
Pro=Better (some cards are falsely labeled pro for their standards)
XT=Best
