It's really annoying how, in many videos, and especially movies, the FX sound can be 10x louder then the actual speech, and I have to sit with my hand on the mouse all the time adjusting the volume or I risk blowing my ear-drum. So is there an app that can automatically sorta equalize the the volume so I don't have to do this chore? I'm sure there must be a feature in like this in WMP or other media players as well but which I'm not aware of.

allow FFDShow to handle dvd and movie audio, yu can then adjust the volume of each speaker.

Yeah GF I feel your pain dude.

This usually happens with translated movies when the voices are so low and sfx are too high.

Windows media player has an auto volume leveling under enhancements feature which doesn't work as accurate or none but it's on the right track of what you need.

I haven't bothered to look into it, because I don't watch too many movies, but with my music I use MP3 gain to adjust it.

There should be a video tool like that somewhere.

Download and install ffdshow tryouts.

Check that it handles the necessary audio codecs for the movies that you are watching. (AC3, E-AC3, DTS, Dolby, etc. Basically all of the movie codecs)

Go into the audio decoder config and turn on 'Normalize'.

If you try Media Player Classic Homecinema, the audio options there also have a Normalize option. Using MPC:HC makes the audio portion of ffdshow pretty much useless.

that's exactly what I do.
plus check the Mixer option and from there choose what kind of sound setup you have. For me I have a 2.0 stereo setup.

This is useful if the sound of the movie is 7.1 or something like that and your sound system can't handle that well.

Be aware after doing all of that you may hear some scratches and weird sound, to solve this max the MPC volume tap and adjust the actual volume from the speakers themselves.

So rather then downloading and installing MPC and all these codecs separately, can I get all this stuff (and lots more) by just installing K-Lite Codec Pack?

Just install MPC home cinema and you're set.
No need for codec packs.

Okay, that was quite a bit easier then I expected, just had to check one little box lol. I'll use this to play my next movie and see if it actually works though.

i use ccp and with ffdshow i set my speaker system to dolby prologic II and check the LFE box and it works no matter which speaker setup im really using eaither my computer or my tv for sound runs beautiful through both with those options

Dolby pro logic doesn't require the LFE box, all its doing is mixing the stereo signal into a DPLII format, to be output on a DPLII mixer.
