Right now I am running

GeForce 9500GT
4 gigs of DDR2 RAM
3.0ghz AMD dual core

My computer is freshly built and ran pcsx2 at around 40 fps. I overclocked my cpu to 3.3 ghz and although the fps has raised to about 50, there is still annoying choppiness to the emulator.

How far do I need to overclock my cpu before I can expect a (almost) smooth performance?

Could this lag be due to the settings on my emulator? I have everything set to the first-timers guide on this site

Am3 processor here, with ddr2 menories :p

And yeah, if your processor it's not phenom II series (in your case not x2 550), maybe it's not enough for pcsx2.

With my oldie 4400+ i played a lot of games very well, but not demanding games.

people need to research their ****.

AM2 and AM3 processors are the same, its the boards that differ.

true AM3 boards are DDR3 only.
