Well... I've been messing around with all the plugin's and it comes down to these two. I just wanted to see what other people think.

To me I would have to choose Iori... I never thought Iori's plug-in would actually be good because people are always talking about the internal/Null2... Well turns out that Null2 as great as it sounds and as accurate as it is... it freezes on some games. There are minor glitches in the sound too but they are very minor. I'd use Null2 if it wasn't buggy.

Now Iori's: To me... PERFECT sound... The music is beautifully played on Iori's in Chrono Cross's and FFIX. The MDEC's don't freeze and they arn't choppy or they don't "crack" if you set it up properly.

Actually forget the Poll just tell me what you guys think?

Anyway as for the rest of the settings for Iori's 1.46 SPU,

My settings are:

Sound Buffer Size - 15
XA Buffer Size - 48

High Res Mode - On
Wait for XA Buffer - On
Show Realtime Config Window - On (Awesome feature!!! Lets you play your mdec or game while adjusting the settings. Awesome for finding out perfect settings for your game.!)
Enable Noise and Pitch Modulation - On
Enable Reverb - On
Enable SPU IRQ (THIS MUST BE ON! This is if you have choppy sound, if you have this on and you still have choppy sound then it is because you have ePSXe's SPU IRQ on... they both cannot be on.)
Enable Compressor - On (not sure what this does but it never seemed to make any difference.)

Anyway great SPU Iori... absolutely flawless =).

I always stick with the internal plugin, maybe I should give a try to Iori's one.
But the internal one is the best when it comes to games with speech(Resident Evil,Soul Reaver and all the others...)so I just keep using it.

Hmm... never really thought about speech... I think I should try out Metal Gear Solid or something in order to find out if Iori's is a good all around SPU. Thanks for the feedback.

Forget about MGS,the speech isn't good at all with any SPU.
It isn't caused by the SPU,it's a timing problem(ePSXe doesn't render the game at its real speed),the only way to have good speech is to turn the frame limiter off.

Um, Iori's SPU works perfectly w/the speech in Castlevania SOTN and in Koudelka as well. Plus it plays all the music and all the SFX nice and clear. For the first time I am able to to hear all the sounds and music in Gauntlet Legends. Iori's definately is my first choice.
Volcom, I'll give your settings a try and see what I discover. Thanks for posting them.

Actually... I need to apologize and warn ahead of time for anyone who is going to use Iori's... I just ran into a problem which can be fixed. As I am playing Chrono Cross I come across another FMV... When the FMV shows it shows a really messed up FMV... like all the graphics and colors are compressed... it looks like static on a TV... but the only difference is that its still... I also go a gray screen at times and a black screen... I think it depends on the GPU...

Anyway I thought it was my ISO going bad but I figured out that Iori's SPU... You need to turn off Compression... When I turned this off my FMV's were back to normal. I also turned off some other settings just to be safe... here is my current settings with no sound problems or any real change.

High Resolution - Off
Wait for XA buffer is free - off
Show realtime config window - off/on (depends if im troubleshooting or changing compatiblity)
Enable Noise and Pitch Modulation - On
Enable Reverb - off
Enable SPU IRQ - On
Enable Compressor - off (Which I believe eventually screws around with ePSXe...)

I ended up having to delete the ePSXe emulator registry entry to return the settings back to normal.

to get the correct speed in MGs on epsxe.... enable special game fixes in petes gpu pluggins and enable "use pc fps calc".... change the framerate to "auto" and framecap to "old" in lewpys pluggin to get correct speed in MGS... I get correct speed with MGS with these settings and the sound is still skippy... Maybe its a sound timing problem.. Or a mixture of both sound and video timing...

I'd love to use Iori's plug--in but it's TOO slown on my system (k6-2 55MHz) :(

It's written on the plug-in's readme that the author doesn't intend to do any speed optimizations for the sake of compatibility.

Hmm I'm going to have to try and figure out this MGS thing. I love MGS and if I were to get it to run on my PC... WOW would it be a whole new world. ePSXe is the best. I mean at times there are frustration with configuration but if people would just take the time to read the material and understand how the SPU and GPU's work... then one might figure out how get the game to work really well. Plus we got the forums here =). Plenty of nice people to answer questions hehe.

So with that in mind =). I've been reading PE2 post... but I think some of them were old. Does PE2 run on the new 1.40? I want to be sure of it before I go rent it.

If you've ever played Gex (2 or 3) you'll know Null doesn't play the voices. Actually there's a quite few games like this. In addition the XA audio is slow with that plugin but otherwise it's a better plugin sound quality wise. Iori's plugin does have some problems with some of the "module" type tunes which Pete's on the other hand plays flawlessly. If Pete's had better noise emulation and didn't loop notes now and again I think it would be the best. The internal plugin does something weird to the emulation speed after using it a few times so I can't really comment on that one.

In conclusion given that Iori only current drawback is speed it will probably end up being the better plugin as the average speed of computers increase, provided the others aren't updated of course (which will not be the case I hope)

Just my views they're all really great plugins

Even though I'm also using the internal plugin,
I like the way iori plugin lets the ability to configure
while your playing the game. But you can't play in
fullscreen though (black screen here), only window mode.

for MGS use prodigy spu or Null's spu

buffer 40
block 4

turn spu hack OFF

the game will play the cuts sceens smoothly.

also I recommend using ePSXe 1.0.1 for MGS.

I'm playin' FF9 and I've found that Null2's is the best in stability, music, and most sound effects. I tried Iori's and I got neverending tones and scratchy sound effects, and I tried a few different settings. But then that's me . . .

Volcom, I tried out your settings and they work fine for me. The speech between Dracula and Richter is perfect. I think I will I leave them just as they are. Thanks again for posting them.

I use null2 1.30, its a little scratchy once in awhile (Invincilble flying around) but my systems so fast that its not that bad, and it plays MDECS perfectly. Tried all the other (exept internal) and nulls seams to be the most accurate, and supports the most sounds. Im playing FFIX with it. havnt tried any other games yet.
