I dont really relate on a social basis to the type of people that the band "Green Day" are and emmediately relate to (punk types), but I think its interesting that they still manage to put out good anthems like "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" that many in my generation can relate to...even if not the band itself.

Green Day has been around forever. I still remember the song Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) playing at my grade school graduation ceremony :p

Rock types usually focus more on personal issues and love and whatnots.....Rap probably money, hoes, and *****es (other than Usher and a few other R&B artists, I can't pick out 3/4 of these songs' meanings....maybe they're just horney all the time? :p ) Pop: ppfff....I don't care :p

The music people listen too reflect their personality quite nicely. Almost everyone here are rockers. You have to do some soul searching to figure out what genre you really like :)
I’m not a big fan of Green Day, but I like some of their songs. Their latest album, “American Idiot” (from where “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” comes from), is also quite good. BTW, the song “Jesus of Suburbia” is very good too.

I’m not a fan of punk in general, except for Bad Religion. Bad Religion is the best punk rock band of all time (yeah, the Ramones rock too, but BR’s lyrics have a stronger appeal to me). I’m more of a heavy metal fan – Iron Maiden is absolutely my favorite band ever.

Can you post some lyrics of Greend Day you find nice? I'm interested :)

I did some soul search as well :p
I ended up listening to powermetal, though I've started off with Bon Jovi :) Also because of all the great lyrics.
Speaking of lyrics, some techno lovers like me like it with no lyrics at all :p . Until I was about 11 I liked pop but during the last 4 years Ive come to embrace alternative and techno (more specifically drum n' bass).
Short sentences like
"if you think you're the bomb, than I'm hiroshima BOOM!!" can be enough for me as well when I go out :p

But that's my techno side (like foreigners would probably call that music... though I don't like techno at all, but different styles of dance music :p)
When I'm at home I prefer to listen to metal :guitar:
a shout out to all electronica, drum n bass, trance, trip hop, acid jazz, etc. lovers!
who needs lyrics. without them, a song can take on whatever meaning you want, whenver you want.

edit: and yeah...to stay more on topic...it is a good song.

here ^^

i like the song to :D
cant believe it didnt or hasnt made it in dutch top 40 yet.. like some other worthless songs did, dutch version of snapie sucks >< german was ok.. but i rather see boulevard of broken dreams there
The lyrics are okay :)

They aren't the kind of lyrics that can have a meaning to me, but at least they're better than the average top40 hit lyrics :p

I guess the song is too good to be in top 40

Good music isn't mainstream ;)

Nice quote:
You feel at ease as you flock with the masses
What do you see with your head in their asses?
It kinda applies to all those kiddies thinking that commercial top 40 crap is the best there is in the whole music industry

Here's a better version of Schnappie :innocent:
Schnappie
Oh and don't worry, you are allowed to download this :) It's just a sample.

If they ever listened to anything else then they'd realise that there's more to music than the charts. They'd probably then eat their brain in confusion.

IIRC Broken Dreams jusst jumped way up in Billboard charts cause they just factored in mp3 downloads (legal downloads, where you actually buy the song online), so im curious if it that would make a difference or they already factor that.

Here's that Good Riddance song....hard to believe this lasts for three minutes :p

Another turning point a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist directs you where to go
So make the best of this test and don't ask why
It's not a question but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

my music life really opened up after I broke out of that top 40 **** every american teenager is so dumb to follow......never knew such good bands before; such as Audioslave, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Velvet Revolver

Besides, the RIAA focus all their sueing crap on the top 40 chart :rotflmao:

here is one of Green Day's earliest songs.

1,000 Hours

Starlit night
The moon is shining bright
You are the one that I need
Up at your window
I see a shadow
Silhouette of your grace
Here's this flower
I picked for all the hours
That you've spent with me
The one I love
That I've been dreaming of
Sailing across the sea

Let my hands flow through
Your hair. Moving closer
A kiss we'll share
Passionate love to be all night long
We'll never break, as one too strong

Nothing's more
Than what our love is for
As I kiss your cheek
Oh so softly
Hands flowing down my back
1,000 hours, I'll never leave
Our romance
Is a love trance
And now we'll never part
1,000 hours
Of such a love shower
We'll never stop, once we start

Let my hands flow through
Your hair. Moving closer
A kiss we'll share
Passionate love to be all night long
We'll never break, as one too strong

Let my hands flow through
Your hair. Moving closer
A kiss we'll share
Passionate love to be all night long
We'll never break, as one too strong

Strrrooooonnnggg...

Greenday's American Idiot album is great, but I think that the song American Idiot is overplayed. It was good when it first came out but Im getting tired of it. Now Jesus of Suburbia is a great song.

haha thats not even schnappie anymore  but the original is ok.
And yea usually charts contain much garbish.

il try greenday whole album, only got it for boulevards of broken dream.
I've loved Green Day for about 10 years now. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is a good song but I'm kinda tired of it because they play it so many times on the radio.
I like green day... one of my favorite was basket case... when I was still in high school... their new album is also a good one...
I also like Green Day. Especially Boulevard of Broken Dreams. American Idiot, for some reason, I find funny, not offensive. Probably cause til' recently I backed bush.
I'm more of a metal person myself, I don't mind green day and I do like some of their stuff...I personally don't care for lyrics onless the music is good (melodic and takes more than a month to play type of thing on an instrument) but even when the music is good you might get crapy lyrics...I see someone quoted the band Edguy in here..nice...anyhow Green day is the only punk band I can give credit to as a full band...

What about Bad Religion?
They're not your average punk band, and they have highly talented musicians. In fact, I think that they are way better than Green Day, although that's my personal opinion.
