I have an Epson and Brother Multi function printer.

They're both nice, but I prefer my Brother one. It's a bit loud though

Whatever you do, don't get a Lexmark. They're horrible nowadays.

In one way the older printers are better. If you can get one used they don't have the anti-cartridge refill measures in place, and find a good source of black ink you can save lots of money.

Only use it as a secondary printer though for black and white draft text prints.

Then get a new modern printer for photo prints

That's the only one thing I dislike about my Brother printer. Even if there's enough ink in the black cartridge to pump out at least 10 pages filled with text...it won't. It'll tell me to replace it before I can do anything.

So annoying
