My parents used a canon pixima that takes number 24 (I think) ink cartridges, and those are $10 and less, depending on where you buy them, but they stopped using that when they got a ton of free ink cartridges that work with our first printer, an HP Deskjet 660C (14 years old). My HP Deskjet 1220C that I got out of the trash (with paper and full ink cartridges) has the best print quality that I've ever seen from an inkjet printer. It also prints on up to 13x19 paper. That canon doesn't have the best print quality, but it's pretty good.
