I have an rm file that has no english subs so i downloaded some english subs but ffdshow isn't able to use it since the video is rm,is there anyway to get the english sub file to work with it?

You tried using MediaPlayer Classic to play the subs?

Then it's a realplayer file and it doesn't have english subs. The English sub titles would be hardcoded into the video.

Only mkv and ogm file formats can play soft english subtitles.

Yes, but with MPC, you can use external subtitle files.

MPC always gives me some bs when i go to the load subtitles option in it,even though i have real alternative installed.

You need to change the Output mode in the preferences to VMR9 Renderless and DirectX 7 or 9 in the RealMedia section.

Doing that makes it not render the video but the file will still play.
