How to create an image of Vista on Sony VAIO

Just got a new laptop (Sony VAIO) and was approached with a bubble on the bottom of the screen that asks if I wanna back up vista. Its only letting me backup files and folders but I just want an image of when I first started the computer.

Where in vista can I do this (Im totally new to vista..been using XP for 6yrs:()

you mean the system recovery? o_O

the backup thing on vista is just like xp's - it's the "easier" way to backup your files before reformat. not that it makes an image of the actual OS state to load it later (like a save state).

so if i got it right, go to the start menu and type in the search for System Restore :)

solved the problem! There's an option with VAIOs that enables you to create recovery discs, but unfortunately I have Home Premium which only lets you back up certain files/folders instead of the whole system itself

To make an exact image of the system you'll need to make an image of the entire hard drive. You can do this with software such as Norton Ghost or DriveImage PRO.
