How the GF 6200 compares to the FX line?

I wanna know how bad is the GF 6200, compared to the FX´s 5700 or 5900?
Coz the 6600 are too expensive here, and i can seem to find the 5700 anymore around here...

afaik, the older FX5600/5700/5900 would prolly be faster than the 6200 (assuming that its not the one with turbochache), on older/DX8 games, on some true DX9 tests/benchmarks ive seen sometime ago (with Pixel and Vertex Shader 2.0), the 6200 manages to pull from the FX line quite good even surpassing a PCX5750/PCX5900 at times, this is due to the GeForce FX's so-so DX9 performance.
6200 NOn TC's seem to overclock quite well and some are able to have their pipelines unlocked. I'd get that over a fx5700/5200.
So the turbocache are better??
nope, the name is a bit intimidating, but its actually slower than the regualar 6200. TurboCache(ATi has HyperMemory) is a fancy name that allows the Graphics card to allocate some memory from the system ram and turn it into vram (just like an integrated graphics card would do), but its a bit faster this time as it uses the 4GB/sec. transfer rate of the PCI-E, however its still slow compared to the higher memory bandwidth of other similar cards with dedicated video ram.
You will notice that TurboCache versions of the 6200 has a label like"up to 128MB of memory" written on its box because it allocates up to that memory (although the card has some dedicated vram of its own from 16,32MB etc.)

AGP versions of the 6200 however does not have TurboCache.
The turbocache versions rely on main memory (they use the b/w of PCX to store textures in main memor) and are slower than thier non-TC AGP cousins which are in fact based off a different core (the 6600 core IIRC).
The non-tc ones are better, but the TC ones aren't exactly terrible. They can play Doom 3 comfortably at 1024x768, and are pretty close the the x600 in performance in everything else
OT:heheh, posted at the same time :)
Nice, ill look for them.
I got the money, but... too much money for one single piece of Hardware...
Still thinking....
If i was you id get either an FX59xx series board, or a Radeon 9800 Pro (or above)

both have very simular performance, the radeon costing £120 GBP here, not sure on the FX59xx series boards
i dont think you would wanna get an FX series now, yeah they were nice at their time but DX9 kills them, id rather get the 9800Pro.

yep, thats one reason i own a 9800 and not an FX board :)
Well, ive heard the 6200 128MB, has 4 pipelines locked, and you can unlock them by softmod-rivatuner, and it turns into a 6600.

its likely true, same with the radeons tho, you can get a 9600 and turn it into a 9800 pro by unlocking the extra pipelines (gotta have the exact model for it to work!) or you can get 9800 Pro's and make them 9800XT's which uses better chip functions, unfortunately theres no guarentee if your 9800Pro will come with the R350 or the R360 chip (need the R360 to do it)
mine has a r360 chip. when i turned it into an xt, the only thing that i got was a boost in 3dmarks as well as lowered overclocks .... so i switched back
9600 turning into 9800? is there such?(they have different designs isnt it?) ive only seen 9500 to 9700 ones.

afaik, some 6200's can only be modded when its using the 6600 core.
If anyone has tried and been able to soft-mod the 6200 into a 6600, let us know. I'll go out and get myself a 6200.

There's no mod for the 9600 for extra pipes.. the RVXXX cores only physically have 4. You're thinking of the 9500>9700.

yeh on only realised that yesterday haha my bad!
Ive done a search on guru3d and what i found is, its really possible to unlock the 4 pipelines and raise the core/mem clocks to the level of the 6600.
BUT, it has to be the NV43 revision A2 chipset, neither the NV43 A4 nor the NV44 can do this.
In others words, only one AGP version of this, it can be done. The newer versions of the AGP, and all PCI-X cant...
Im not buying mine from a store, but from a service like ebay here, mercadolivre.com.br, so the guy just tested the card for me and assured its a NV43 A2.
So be warned....
