Off topic: Some people in cerain chatrooms are really stupid, they say I am not patriotic because I don't care about the US at all even though I am a Malaysian citizen and I have indicated that in that chatroom

Patriotism is a legacy concept from the XVIII century that somehow has managed to survive up to now.... if you ask me it's time we take the next step into something wider, like globalism, humanism or whatever term you want to coin :p

I am not patriotic in the first place. My only allegiance lies with me, I ain't going to serve a bunch of simians who strive each day to make a hellish country an even worse place. That being said, there is a big chance that the reason for me not being patriotic is the fact that my country doesn't deserve such attitude in the first place.

You don't know Kaiser, obviously xD . Besides, most argentinians i know are extremely patriotic. I guess if he isn't by now, there's no way in hell he'll ever be :p .

Im with Proto. Patriotism is an obsolete concept by now. I'm more interested in the world as a whole.

I am patriotic to a point. I really like Canada, and when I compare it to other countries I realize I am a very lucky guy to be living in such a great place. That's about where it ends. I don't put up flags and wear canadian T-shirts ... I don't advertise for my country neither do I preech about it.

How patriotic am I..? The day I declare myself a patriot is the day the earth 's crust shatters, the sun blacks out, and gravity is failing. I never understood patriotism for the life of me, and I never will. Believe me, I tried.

I am 0% patriotic, and that has nothing to do with The Netherlands nor its countless faults.

Ever look on the positive side of things? :p Patriotic isn't always what the world views (sorry for the crude example) But many Americans are "Patriotic" if you know what I mean ... My patriotism for my country isn't nearly that extreme.

[email protected] I know what you mean ;)

Quite often, but I also question everything that enters my mind.

The thing about patriotism is that the concept as a whole is strange and is often in conflict with neutrality and open-mindedness. Love for one's country is perhaps some emotional thing, and quite frankly, that's where I (luckily) fall short. ;)

It just feels so odd, I'm proud to be English, and of the numerous achievements my country men have performed before now.
Proud of the fact that unlike certain countries, our leaders are literate, even eloquent in thier mastery of the English tongue.
Proud of the Empire we once had.
Proud of the skills of our armed forces.
Proud of the numerous technical achivements and great minds this country has pumped out
Proud of the long standing traditions we have.
And yet..... I want to move to a country on hte other side of the world.... I'm starting to believe that stuff on South Park about Chinpokemon.... I've been brainwashed.

Well speaking for myself, the 'love' for my country isn't an emotional one. It is more of a feeling of "Wow, Canada (where I love) is a pretty damn cool place. I really like living here" It isn't the politics or anything of that nature, but for me, it is the setting, environment and people that make up my patriotism for my country that I live in ;)

I know what you mean though, Some people go totally overboard ...

That isn't really what patriotism is about, though. Everyone has places one likes. So do I. Liking the place you live in, the scenery, the people and so on is all good and fun. Patriotism goes as far as actual love, and even pride as Kane just has demonstrated. Patriots are in love with their country. It's about feeling close and tied to what your country is or has represent(ing/ed), and defending it through and despite all its faults.

I own a Saltire and am a member of the Scottish Socialist Party.

Being President of the Republic of Scotland is one of my future aims. :D

But saying that, I do believe in integration with Europe. In nations such as France, Germany and the UK we are divided, but together, every nation of Europe could make one huge difference not just to Europeans, but to the entire world. Some economic forecasters have deemed that the 21st Century is Europe's Century (whereas the 20th Century was America's). The European Union is just too damn beaurocratic IMO.
