How fast can a ps2 emu be...

If the GPU plugin is as fast as light, can a generic PC run a full optimized ps2 emu with full speed or more?

How do you think about this? :???:

nope, you can't gpu is just a gpu... there are many othere sections of PS2 hardware. It'll probably at full speed in couple of years... If you want to check current speed of emulation do a serch on this forum, go to screens section
The team building the Emulator in not concerned with the speed of the program right now. They are concentrating on accuracy.

When the code has reached a level capable of playing a game without crashing (That's around 70% - 85% Emulation). They may start optimizing it.
I think the pcsx2 never will play ps2 games so good as a console .!.
I think it's a matter of time. We may not see playable emulation for years, but it's quite possible.
I'm with Kane, it's just a matter of time, wait 5 - 8 years and your palmtop will emulate PS2 (don't try to understand it 'directly')

At least we can have better graphics than in the console version. Higher resolutions, FullScreen Antialiasing and maybe some other filters that the PS2 doesnt offer. About the speed, right, its only a matter of time. But i dont think it will work on a PDA in 8 years. At least i still found no way to emulate my favorite SNES Games on my freaking IPAQ :p
As computer evolution is quite fast, sooner big pcs will run the PS2 soon but until there it already have PS4 got it? so good job and continue the progress of the emulator =)

I don't think so. The pcsx2 has got significant progress we all noticed. I believe I won't be disappointed.

I just wonder if current PCs are powerful enough to run a perfect PS2 emu. PC is a weak platform but popular so we have to suffer its low performance. But high frequency and some in-chip optimizations speed it up. If the IA64-arch is mentioned, I don't think the performance is a problem.
by the time pcsx2 is finished, it will be for 64bit pc's only, 32bit pc's dont stand a chance in running it.

the project is already starting to become 64bit (altho very buggy at the moment) so by the time its compatable as an emulator, dont expect your crusty old athlon or pentium 4 to run it :)
It's funny how I get 20 fps on my celeron sometimes oO

in 3d ??
That isnt possible,i dont get 20fps in 3d with my amd64 4000+ with gf 6600 gt :p
I've gotten 20 FPS in 3d with my computer before (With a 32-bit processor, P4 no HT), but it was with a plugin (OpenGl) that you all didn't support after people modified it, but the compatability wasn't that great eather, even with PCSX2 0.6. That was then though. I've also gotten 40 FPS, but this was also with PCSX2 0.6 in the BIOS. Even though the plugin Specs have changed from 0.6 to 0.7. I can't use it anymore. No complaints, it's still a good program. I'm not trying to argue with you Bositman. I just wanted to let you know that it IS possible.
33.33fps in bois

I get 22-28fps in bios 33-34fps in browser,
5-21 in DBZ Budokia2( 1-5 gameplay,5-21 menu's)

AMD XP2000+266fsb
640mb DDR ram
Gf4ti4200-8x agp
schattenberg88 im talking about 20 fps at games like Dragonball with lots of 3D where we all get about 5 :p
Anyway, lets hope the 64bit version will give us a good speed boost

Okay, that I didn't catch, Bositman. Lets hope that what you said holds true. This is my 100th POST!! (Spam, I know. I just felt like I had to do this once.)
now days pc's are getting stronger, but dont4get ps2 is made4only1thing playing games and the hardware etc.. is disigned4games only but not pc's.
but pc's are doing multiplu operations not just4games apps, etc...

ps2 emulator is still on beta stages, more debugging needs2be done and more code needed2be typed.

This is my 1485th POST!! (Even though nobody cares. I just felt like I had to spam these forums.)

In a few years, 64-bit platforms will be more mainstream anyway. Also, it's important to remember that Playstation emulation didn't happen overnight either. It took years, just like this will.

Also, dont4get that rolling words in2one is fecking annoying. More thought needs2be made before posting.
