How does the thread rating work?

How is it implimented? Can we search threads based on ratings? What is it used for exactly?

From the board's faq:

How do I rate a thread?
You may find a small menu on thread pages which allows you to 'rate this thread' with a number between 1-5.

Casting a vote for threads you view is entirely optional, but if you think that the thread is superb, you might rate it as a 5-star thread, or if you think that it's unspeakably dismal, you might choose to rate the thread with a single star.

Once enough votes have been cast for the thread rating, you may see a set of stars appear with the title of the thread in the thread listings. These stars reflect the average vote cast, and can allow you to quickly see which threads are worth reading if you are on a very busy board with a lot of threads.

I don't think you can search for threads based on ratings, and I've yet to see a thread with enough votes to be rated.

It would appear five votes is the minimum needed to see the rating. Keiichi is referring to http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6945 and http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6613. Ah, I guess ratings have to be turned on before you can see ratings for a forum. That's probably why no one saw them before. ;)
Well, I can tell this rating idea is going to last long. It's incredibly annoying to look at and serves little to no purpose. Hint hint hint.
Hmm, whose idea could this have been? "(Previous Rarting: none)" I for one can't tell. ;)

and why is it that some guys have rainbow's and other's pure colors? :eyes: .. :stupid:
The ones with less than a five rating have various colors, much like prafull pointed out. The darker it is (or in this case, the shorter the color bar), the worse your rating.

i guess this is kinda like the hp/mp thingy at another forum I've been to. Kinda cool, if you ask me.
I'd rather have the hp/mp thingy. That's saying a lot. It's annoying to look at...annoying period, really.

...but only after 3 votes, so you'll never know who voted what...so it's still pretty anonymous.
It really isn't that difficult to figure out who voted what. I know exactly who gave me the first four grade (or lower) to knock me out of the green bar, and I have suspicions about other grades. It's not like I care, since the rating system is evil, but it's not all that anonymous.

This is a hack for vBulletin board so I think it is a bug.
Yep. There are a couple problems with it (like, for example, the German words still left in it).

I don't think so... maybe it's because it looks cool there...
They don't throw in a button that does something wrong because it "looks cool." Whoever did the hack just coded it wrong.

You know, I think once you get even one 2 or 1 you are stuck with a rainbow no matter how many 5's you get. Anyone else notice this?
Actually, it might be possible to get back to a 5. 3s seem to work with the five rating, but I wouldn't know for sure with the 2 or 1 until more votes are allocated to the person.

Keiichi: I'd rather have location or a nice blank space there.

I kinda experimented... even *one* 4 and all 5's give you a rainbow already.
No. Like I said, one person I gave a 3 to has a green rating. The (in)flexibility of the scores is based more on how many votes you have than the scores. For example, I gave myself a 1 rating, but even with that 1 rating, I have a four. If I modify it to a 5 rating, it's still a 4 rating. Does it make sense? Not in the least. ;)
> I don't see the use of this feature...

It should indicate the value of the posts of specific posters. However, the way it is implemented, it's worthless, considering nearly every person rated has a 4 rating.

It's easier to say you want the location back. Some people might not understand what you meant by that post.
Eh? When did the date registered start popping up? Has that always been there? That's almost as pointless as the personal ratings.
Wait a second, we kept the date registered but not the location? That's strange...
As I thought, you CAN get a 2 rating and still have a full green bar. This isn't what I left the vote as for the person, but I'm just showing you it's possible. For what it's worth, a 1 rating also left the person a green bar. So it's very much possible to get a green bar, it's all down to the number of votes.
