this is somewhat a moral situation. For many people taking one life to save many is unreasonable. Imagine if YOU had a genetic oddity which was causing you to produce antibodies to some horrible virus, for the sake of horrible lets say HIV. Now that's all good and fine but inorder for it to be useful they have to extract it all from you which would leave you dead. Do you think that situation is alright where the government just says "kill him" for the lives of people you probably don't care about? The reason i'm anti-abortion and such is that these people haven't had the opertunity to live at all. These people suffering from alzhiemer's amung along with several other diseases have already lived far fuller lives, and in some cases are already beginning to see the end of their lives naturally anyway without the disease in question.

money is a rather poor reason to do something if you ask me.. All these scientists are so busy asking themselves if they can but never take a step back and ask if they should. Bush is ALREADY allowing stem cell research which is far more than what your precious clinton can take credit for. For him it's a question of where to get the cells from. Getting them from discarded babies is immoral but getting them from other places, like bone marrow is alright. I pity the person who values his own pitiful life over that of a child.

The Right-Wing Americans and their fearless leader Bush can wave around the "culture of life" flag all they want.

But what's going to happen when other countries like South Korea are making quantum jumps in stem cell research and see money and jobs leading to those countries?

I rather be in a country that is taking action on saving lives than a country that talks about saving lives.

all a human being is, is technically a blob of cells. When does a blob of cells cease being a blob of cells and becomes a human? It's a very slippery slope. That's why i believe the second the egg becomes fertilized it's a precious life which can never be made again. Look at life development.. First your a cell, t hen an embryo, than a baby, then a toddler, then a child, preteen, teen, adult, senior... On this slippery slope who is to say a senior couldn't take a teens life because it isn't as developed? Who's to say a teen couldn't kill a toddler because it isn't as developed? Life in all stages should be treasured, not destroyed.

But it's not about child, it's about a blob of cells without feelings (brain). It's not like they'll kill children... only the stem cell of an embryo works (I think).
If you value a blob of cell over your own life, you are truely pathetic, IMO of course And do you eat meat? I'm sure where it came from had more feeling than an embryo.
And it's weird how people go crazy over the "right to live" of something which don't want to live, but not the right to die of people who want to die, especially in the situation Boltzmann mentioned :???:

that might be true if bush was up for reelection. Since he's in his second term he's got no one to impress. He's completely free to do what he wish and move the country in the direction he believes is right. This veto would come from him 100%. Not his "culture of life" buddies

The president will veto this for sure. He would lose the confidence of the religous right if he didnt. He wouldnt just claim to want to support "a culture of life" one day and pass this bill another day.His views are pretty much set in stone when it comes to this issue. :agree:

This discussion is rediculus because Bush supports stemcell research, he just opposes where some people would like to get their stemcells from.

it's evident that this thread is simply being used for anti-bush fodder which bears no resemblance to what Bush is really like. Bush isn't a war-happy hillbilly. He didn't take the choose to go to war very lightly. 9/11 happened and we wanted Bin Laden which isn't that much to ask for since 3000 people just died and we're asking for one guy. So he took on the Taliban to try to find Bin Laden. Things in another part of the region arn't exactly peachy keen either. Sadam was STILL after 12 years acting like a bully. He's gassed his own people (so we know he did have WMDs at some point). At some point he got rid of them but didn't publically make it available to anyone. Not the UN, USA, or his neighbors. Considering that Sadam had attacked two countries unprovoked and ALL intellegence pointed to him having WMDs including Russian, Israili, UN, French, British, and American. Considering all this **** Bush decided to take out Sadam with or without the UN. Now the Iraqis are taking responsiblity for their own country. They have got a democractic government which will probably last for quite a long time. USA troops are mostly sitting in the background backing up the Iraqi troops. The USA is rebuilding everything we blew up and everything that Sadam let deteriate over the past 12 years including the electrical grid, water service, gas service, the oil lines, the sewage systems. The only people causing trouble are the foreign arabs that will kill fellow arabs in order to implement a Far Right (way further than Bush, FoxNews, and the Catholic Church combined) government where even music and dancing are banned. Player-X i'm sorry that you don't appreciate the sacrifices americans make but great democratic reforms are taking place all over the world which IS making the world more safe and secure.
