Hit the ***** - the Danish approach to Anti-Violence

File under bad ideas: one component of a Danish anti-violence campaign features an online game that allows players to virtually beat up a woman.

“Hit The *****” is the work of The NGO for Children Exposed to Violence at Home and lets players smack around a girl in a bid to elevate scores from the level of “*****” to “gangsta.” Users who possess a webcam also have the ability to go interactive, as physical swings and slaps will be translated to on screen violence against the girl.

The site is currently only offered to Danish Internet users due to a high amount of traffic to the site, though the game’s makers note that “domestic violence is a global problem, so please support the fight against it in your local country.”

By all accounts, the game ends with the girl on the ground bleeding and crying. One user reported that the game calls the player an idiot for participating.

Leave it to the Danes to take a new and quite disturbing way to raise awareness of violence. Is this just a clever approach to raising awareness, by appealing to the knee-jerk reaction of major media companies to get media coverage of this controversial beat em up, or does it simply miss the mark?

I think by making this controversial as it is it goes a ways in making the issue of violence well known, but the execution of the game itself is rather poorly done, mainly in the ramifications and consequence of completing the game and merely being labeled an idiot for participating.

Candidate for one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I thought you were joking at first.
That game is a waste of talent... In the US, that game would cause riots among feminists.

I'd seriously rather play this: Punch Bill Gates
YouTube - Hit The Bitch

LOL this is so wrong xD
Ok, this is really stupid! :(
How humanity has sunk.....hilarious though

sorry to quote you and not actually add much to the topic, but damn thats prity much what i was thinking, ok mine was simpler as you probably guessed hence why it was appropriate to quote you.

Anyway in summary smart idea poorly executed.

But hey, at least it is actually treating video games as something adults use, thats rare outside of video game companys and co.

disclamer:

its 4 in the morning sorry if this post doesnt make sence.
LOL it even has a webcam mode so you can actually swing your hand in front of the screen
This is one of those "no comment" moments, what worries me more that this comes from an institution which means there are people that actually believe this bull sh***.
Whoever thought this up should be slapped instead. Serious though, there are better ways to get the point across.
Maybe they'll have a rape and torture simulator next?
Wait?

1 question. Did this method get the ***** back in the kitchen?
I want you all to seriously consider this flash game.....

...and remember what could happen the next time anyone disagrees with me.

Ka-pow!
shut up, i have access to a crane and im not afraid to drop a 20t safe on you.

I think it'd miss the mark, but that's for someone who's against domestic violence in the first place, it's not the way to make things clear. On the other hand, any father or mother that retarded to slap away like a maniac will probably not see the meaning behind this either. There's simply no hope for some people on this planet.

(ashamed, looking down)....
