Hi guys, last night i somehow messed up the cable that connects the CD/DVD drives to motherboard. :hdbash: Does anyone know the name of the cable if it has one. Is it the same for all pc's? (correct me if not the case). Thx for the help.

i believe it is a "IDE" ribbon. It is actually written on the damn thing. And its a standard so all computers should have them.

it's called an IDE cable and it it standardised, and If you don't even know that it is standardised nor what it's called why do you have your PC open in the first place

As D.D. said.

The cable is known as IDE cable, they come with 80 or 40 wires in the ribbon depending the speed it is intended to handle.

Some crappy IDE cables have a missing key on it or the hole isn't blocked, it's rare to be missing both

well if he is trying to install a harddrive on the same cable then it could be the jumpers. The little grouped 6 pins to the left of the ide. There is this little thing there connecting two of the pins together. Make sure you have one setup to master and the other as a slave.

Actually the end of the cable, which goes into the motherboard, i somehow managed to split like two small wires on it. I got no clue how it happened i only noticed during bootup when the CD/DVD drives were not showing and upon inspection i noticed two small wires broken in two. Clumsy me.
