So I originally got Chankast and was directed to NullDC. I've used PSX emulators like ePSXe, so plugin-based emulators aren't new to me... But this program and dreamcast emulators are. I have the bios, they are both named correctly, and in the correct folder.

Problem when I ran Chankast was that it would show me the dreamcast loading splash screen type kind of thing with the swirly-deal, but the color would be really ugly... just like black and gray. Then it would go to a light blue screen and not do anything but feed me crappy sound. Using Windows Vista by the way.

So I get NullDC, thinking it might be a Vista problem. Now I start to hear the sound of the loading, sound isn't too great, but worse problem is video.. which doesn't show at all. Just black screen.

I'm using whatever default plugins the program comes with. I know with ePSXe, that would never fly and you need a whole arsenal of plugin files before the emulator is worth anything.

What should I be using?

Quarts, STFU. Piracy is NOT CONDONED! Asking about it will GET YOU BANNED!

To the OP:
Is your video card an older model? The nullPVR plugin requires PixelShader 2.0 or somesuch(also make sure you've got the latest version of DX9). You can use the ChankastPVR plugin at the expense of a number of features(Sonic Adventure 2 is particularly affected - beating King Boom Boo without shadows takes a lot of patience and a lot of time). As for the sound issue, Vista is known to cause problems. Increase your sound buffer to 2048 or greater(note that excessively high values will cause audio lag).

My video card isn't exactly a fancy pants video card to begin with, but I wouldn't say it's old. I run just about any playstation game I want to, so I don't see why DC wouldn't work. It's called "Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family," so that's not exactly AMD or the most popular gaming card, but so far it's given me no trouble with PSX games aside from needing to do some configuring and messing around with it.

Mainly, the only games I want to get running right now are Shenmue, Shenmue 2, Skies of Arcadia, and Grandia II

Also, everytime I start the program it says that 93dx9_37.dll is missing but the program runs anyway. Is that a directx9 file that I need?

I think(so don't quote me on this) that that's pretty much as close to "no video card" that you can get these days, sadly.
I have an Intel graphics card in my laptop though and it ran Senko no Ronde with nullDC naomi great at like 80% speed... So I guess you should be able to play anyway.

well i must ask this.does nulldc req a dedicated graphic card to run games.cause i played marvel vs capcom2 fine untill i formatted my laptop and now nulldc just crashes without any errors.the same thing happens when i boot the emulator without any discs.i have updated my direct x to the latest redist that is aug 08 i think.and that solved one of my problems of the pvr_win32.dll not being recognised by the emu but now this happens.

You said you formatted your PC and reinstalled DirectX. Did you also reinstall the drivers of your video card?

nullDC needs a decent video card, which means integrated Intel video cards are bound to have problems. Use a recent nVidia or ATI video card.

yes i did update my intel video card drivers but that was of no use.finally i downloaded an older version of nulldc and the games run fine now.nulldc 1.00 beta build 7 that is.the one i was using before was ver 1.03 which was hosted here on ngemu.iam playing shenmue at almost full speed now.there a just some minor hiccups when there is too much action going on but other than that i play most games on my laptop at full speed.
