I got FF8 to work fine on ePSXe. However, no matter which video plugin I use, when I run away from a battle the game stops working. I just get a black screen after I collect whatever items and AP I accumulated. Now at first I didnt think this was a terribly big problem. I could live with it. BUT, on the SeeD exam you have to fight that big machine. And since I have not leveled (I want to have super stats so... doing the not leveling up thing) I cant beat the stupid machine. All I can do is run away.... and well... theres my problem. Anyone got ideas. Petes Open GL2 thingy dont work on my comp. Its says No WGL Extensions. So please dont advise on settings for THAT plugin.

I've tried:

Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.75
Pete's D3D Driver 1.75
Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.6
Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.75
P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.16

With just about all the configurations there are (I dont mean this literally ofcourse there must be hundreds if not thousands of configs). But I have tried lots. There.

That's because you are not reading the info in my ePSXe FAQ
Pixel shading features ('Use pixel-shader for PSX Texture Window Emulation' and 'Shader effects') only work on DirectX9 class graphics cards such as the ATi 9500 and above or the nVidia geForce FX 5200 and above. If your card does not support Dx9 shaders you'll get an error similar to 'No WGL extensions avaliable'
edit:

You can't beat it to my knowledge. Full stop. Even on the PC version with Ninja stats, it won't die

Oh good gods. A trident graphics card! No wonder OpenGL2 was having problems.
Anyways, the running away black screen problem. Could you attach a memcard with a recent save, as I never played FF8 through on the emu, I only tested a few parts.

for one: FOR FECK'S SAKE STOP DOUBLE POSTING. yikes man. just put all your info in one post, if you forget something, edit.

secondly, kane, you can beat that stupid machine...i've done it with a l33t Quezacotl and i guess you "technically" beat it.

lastly, goodness your graphics card sucks. anyway you might want to be using Peops soft plugin.

are you playing off CD or ISO?

memcard...? huh? And i tried Peops too if you didnt notice, I posted that. And I cant get a better graphics card... I have a laptop and the guy said i could change the card in it. I didnt buy it for gaming. I tried an ISO and it wouldnt work at ALL. I couldnt figure out how to play off a cd but I used this program I downloaded to turn the cd info into a .bin file or something. that works though. Thats what I use.

Errrr.... thats an iso. I bet the problem may be the iso. Try doing it again and see if it works. If don't then try to use the cd instead: use the internal cd plugin and check.
I'm pretty sure this problem is in no way related to your graphics plugin.

If it doesn't work try epsxe 1.5.2 or psxeven.

Yes this thread is slightly dead, but I had this problem recently and well.. I figure posting a response could be helpful. Anyway, when I was playing FF8 I had the running away controls (L2 + R2 I think) mapped onto the keyboard keys "1" and "2" -- when I mapped them onto other keys "Z" and "X" everything worked fine.
