I got this Audigy that I want to try out. However, it has no drivers, or documentation. It's got the darkish PBC, and the gold contacts, along with the MIDI daughter card. It says "Sound Blaster Audigy" on the corner of the card, which doesn't specify whether it's a Audigy Platinum, gamer, etc.

I was wondering which drivers and software is recommended for this sort of Audigy? I tired some drivers from the Creative Labs site but it didn't seem to work that well, and when it did, there was no other software with enhancement features like I have on my SB Live! 5.1(IE - Creative Surround Mixer, etc).

If anyone can help and direct me to some good drivers and software sites, I'd really appreciate it. I'm hoping to get all the same things I get from my SB Live on this Audigy(IE - EAX effects, like "Rock" etc).

Thanks!

There should be a model number on the printboard. Find it on this list. After that, download anything there is to download from here.

There is a possibility that you won't find the specific additions you're looking for. Some software packages specific to creative's soundblaster cards have had no update, and need the CD to be installed.

It says SB0090, and nothing else(no M or G like listed on that site).

Any of you guys think it's worth a gamble to change from a Live 5.1 to a this Audigy?

P.S. - Would the mixer and EAX software that came with my Live card work with this card?

Doesn't matter if it is a Gamer, Mp3, etc.... ALL Audigy drivers are the same. The difference was in the bundeled software. The Driver downloads should also have a link to DL all the mixer/EAX, etc software....
You need To get the Full driver though. the update will not work.
And Yes, An Audigy is far and away better than a Live. It's faster, uses less resources and the sound is far superior.

it doesnt matter what drivers you use. ALL audigy 1's use the same drivers, regardless. ALL audigy 2's use the same drivers. when it installs them it figures out what type of card you have and what to install (like if you have a vanilla Audigy 2 not a 2 ZS or whatever). so just get the standard vanilla Audigy drivers and install them.

also, yes, i recommend the audigy over the Live! 5.1. the sound quality on the Audigy is great, plus you get EAX for games (not like you will do much in games with a MX440 and a celeron, but still).

P.S. - Would the mixer and EAX software that came with my Live card work with this card?
it doesnt matter. you can just get the Audigy versions of those software (if you like em) from their site.

Their website is just full of frickin' WEB UPDATES, and not the actual full software itself...what the hell?:(

That's one thing that really pissed me off about all my Creative cards: The drivers and driver support sucked great big monkey balls. My brother has a useles Live! Platinum because the XP drivers don't detect it as a Live! In Win 98 it works fine and Creative basicaly said 'feck off' to him about it. I hated the fact that the drivers took exactly the same amount of time (~20 minutes) to install regardless of what components you install. Hell my nVidia graphics drivers take 30 secs at tops, and they are more feature packed than the crappy Creative ones. And don't even get me started about hte forced install of the demos, and the live bar for features you use, but aren't related to it. Oh, and the sodding startup crap, the Creative news app. The only thing that was any good in the entire package was AudioHQ/Surround Mixer, and they weren't even default installs.
I loved my Audigy. I loved my numerous Lives, but I'm never getting another Creative card until they start using someone elses installer (the MSI one would be favorite) and don't bloat thier drivers. But as it is, I'm gonna end up with the cack on-board sound on this board (sodding thing starts buzzing when a dsound app other than Winamp stops).
Goddamn it! Why isn't the sound industry like the Video industry. It seems there is Creative who make good cards with crap drivers and everyone else who make mediocre cards with decent drivers. I don't want mediocrity! I want an nVidia soundcard!
....uhhhhh I digress

Well said. I agree, Creative's drivers suck and take ass long to install. Hell, the keep crapping out on my Live 5.1 every so often where I have to reinstall them. Blah.

Anyhoo, all I really want for this Audigy card is the friggin' drivers and EAX, along with Audio HQ/Surround Mixer.:(

creative has kickass hardware and ****ty software, it's a known fact. i love my Audigy for its sound, performance, built in firewire, and EAX support. unfortunately the drivers suck, always enabling CMSS, take forever to install, and the damn thing STILL can't do dual stereo correctly.

hehe creative drivers *****ed up my win 2000 installation over 10 times... (10 reinstalls.. audigy2)
forced me to get win xp

but they're pretty cheap and good gaming performance.

let's hope m$ buys creative - we'd get compability with windows :p

I turned my audigy 1 to an audigy2 with some tweaked drivers but a problem arose (and i had heard about it too often but i had not noticed conciously).
My audigy 1 automatically uses 4 of my 5 speakers when i use winamp or media player or whatever i'm using that only have 2 channels so the left channel is heard in the front and rear left channels and same with the right channel. In other words, i will hear the sound coming rom 4 sepakers instead of 2 (the center speaker is used only in games and movies).
Well, i was happy with my "new" audigy 2 until it turned i needed to enable cmss to get sound the same way my audigy 1 did. Without cmss the sound would come only from 2 speakers and if i enabled cmss so i could get the 4 speakers as always then i could not enable any eax effect (and i love drum and bass in all my ps2 games).

I'm happy with my audigy 1 again: sound coming from 4 speakers without cmss and i can enable any eax effect freely.

Having been tired of my ****ty SBLive!.. When I got my new motherboard, I switched right over to the onboard SoundStorm audio and it rocks. Was my decision right? Or is the live better? I'm thinking it isn't.

IMO, the Soundstorm is one of the best cards on the market (if you use the 5.1 digital out) owing to it's low CPU usage, good quality, EAX /A3D support DD encoding and good drivers. If I had a choice of that on an A64 board, I'd have paid as much as 60 quid over what I paid for this one.

i love my Nforce with the Realtek codec...the sound is pretty good (i like the audigy better, but meh, it's a nominal difference) and i LOVE the drivers. easy to install, a friendly little mixer afterwards, and perfect dual stereo! the ONLY thing i hate is how there are 3 ports, and im using all of them for 5.1 so i cant play games (like CS Source) and use my mic at the same time...

Luckily I got the base drivers off a gaming site. Then I found a site that had the full Compaq Presario Audigy CD up for download. I just used it to install the Audigy Mixer, Taskbar, etc. EAX and everything works great, for now at least.:)
