Help,
I just bought myself a copy of Ape Escape (PAL), but I can't get it to work with EPSXE 1.2.0

It boots up and runs the DEMO mode fine, but having pressed the start button once, all further controller button presses are ignored.

I have WinME + a PSX->USB convertor + Dual Analog PSX pad. Windoze reports the controller as a 4-Axis 16-button pad and it works fine with GT2 under EPSXE

Does EPSXE support Ape Escape ... I assumed it did as it was mentioned in the lastest README

Are there any magic config or command line options I'm missing ?

Or have I just wasted my money!

Cheers

Thanks for the tip, but I do have my pad 1 set to Analog and I've programmed all the buttons and the 4-axis under the epsxe controller setup gui. I can't do much about the config of the pad, as USB automagically detects it as 4-axis + 16 buttons.

I've also tried several different PSX bios files and still no joy.

Perhaps I'll have to hope its fixed in the next EPSXE release ....

Tried F4 on/off with no luck.
Pete's GPU plugin shows me that F5 is toggling analog on/off, again with no luck.

Could'nt see the Ape Escape tick-box under the CDROM setup. Which one of the 3 options is it ?

Enable accurate cdrom timing (Dragon Valor ...)
Disable cdrom status (Breath of Fire 4...)
Disable real time cdrom status (Gran Tourismo ...)

I had a quick go with various combinations without success.

I've received a couple more tips on Usenet, one suggesting using the following config;

Graphics... Pete's D3D Driver
Sound... ePSXe SPU core
Cd... ASPI Driver
Bios... SCPH-1001

So I'll have a go with that tonight, although I already use Pete's GPU and the SPU Core and I've tried 1001 + 5001 + 7502 BIOSes. I think I'm using the TSG CDROM plugin so maybe that's the problem ?

Other people have suggested its a copy-protection issue and so I need to patch my original. So I guess I could try that, does EPSXE run games from an ISO ?

Thanks guys for the help ... I finally managed to run it last night but only by applying a patch to an iso image.
So its definately some copy protection issue and I guess something to do with the CDROM setup and plugin I am using. I will try the settings posted by onejaz - thanks!

A couple of things I noticed though ...

When using Pete's OpenGL plugin I don't get some of the startup screens which tell you about it requiring dual shock. But I do get them with Pete's D3D plugin

Also some of the mailbox dialogue boxes are blank for 30s or so and I can't continue the game until the text appears.
The characters speech is also missing too.

Finally when I 'die' I just get a black screen with occasionally monkey squeeks!

As for my setup I think I have DirectX 8(a) probably as I needed it for Naboo figther. My PC spec is pretty lowly;

[email protected]
Abit ZM6
128MB PC100
MSI Geforce2 MX

But I seem to be able to get 50fps with fairly nice settings.

Tried all those settings on two different CDROM drives but still can't get passed the copy protection. But I have found that I can load an EPSXE saved state and hence skip the start page. My controller then works fine.

Still get no speech and the blank mailbox messages. Is this an emulator feature or my setup ?

Cheers,
Addy.
