rite addy_addison i have this game (pal) and it works fine for me.im using a psx pad via a usb connector like you...

this is probablly more info than u need but should hopefully help you....
i havent ran this game for an extended amount of time but it seemed fine when i just tried it a minute ago...

ive now played it a bit more and i get the speech but i get the blank mailboxs like u do and no matter what buttons i press i cant seem to get out of them (ie i have to avoid them or i cant progress any further)
so if u manage to get them 2 work please tell us what u did....

o btw i run my copy from a cdr not an origional cd and im sure that mine hasnt had a patch applied to the iso b4 being burnt as the bloke i got it off is a bit of a dullard and couldnt work out how 2 do it....

addy i was playing ape escape last nite and through pressing some of the function buttons (1-12) i managed to get the text in the mailbox's to work,i assume i must have activated some of the special game fixes but 4 the life of me i cant remember which buttons i pressed (im sure f7 was one).Im gonna try them all out sometime 2day.Ive just came online to get directx 8.0a because i keep getting ddhelp crashing on me and heard this fixes it,so as soon as i figure out what i did i'll let u know ..
