Another problem, hoping someone can help me out again.
Seems my 3 year old Maxtor 80GB @ 7200 is finally crapping out on me. There aren't any scratching noises or anything else of the sort, but I'm getting an intermittent beep (happens every 5-10 minutes or so) coming from somewhere in my case (can't seem to locate exactly where it's coming from - around the HDs I think). All my system diagnostics have come clean and the typically monitored temperatures are fine for my specs, so everything but my HD is in the clear. Only thing is that Maxtor claims there are no parts capable of making audible beeps in their HDs. oO Huh.
Anyways, if someone wants to comment on that, I'd be interested to hear their take on it. Now onto my real problem.
I'm going to buy a new hard drive, but since the Maxtor contains all my OS information and every program installed on the computer, I'm looking for a way to copy everything on the drive to a new drive, remove the dying drive, and replace it with the new one - avoiding re-installing all my stuff in the process. So basically I need to know if I can swap the drives without all the software going crazy on me and not working.
God. Damn thing beeped again. =P Creeps me out when it does it.
Thanks for any help people throw my way.
Cheers,
Criftus
