First of all I recommend switching to Duckstation.

Much newer and better PS1 emulator.
As for the current issue here's few tips.
In bios settings disable HLE emulation, that thing is just broken.
Under options - CPU overclocking make sure it's set to 1x.
If you got any cheats on disable them, save the game to the menory card then restart ePSXe and load your save from the menory card, save states are great but they save everything even bugs that can occur.
