Got a free X-Box...now what do with it? :help:

Well my mate dropped of his X-Box, he's getting rid of his old consoles, so just dropped it by on his way to work.

Now it's not like I am gonna buy games for it...seriously I got all the good games for the X-Box, on my PS2...and as for X-Box only good games.....erm.....well...there was that...oh...Halo?

Well you get my point, I really hate that ugly black lump of plastic, so choices choices:

A: I could somehow mod it into a low end web server??!

B: Rip it's hardware out, fit it with a mini fridge (it's big enough!!) and sell it as some kind of freak.

C: Petrol, match...well you get the idea

D: Petrol, match, modern art gallery?

E: Swap it's outside with my PS2 shell...no wait, it wouldn't fit, and erm it's like putting sublim beauty into the ugliest box ever.

F: Hide it behind my GC, PS2, DC, Mega Driver, etc and forget I ever had it..

so any suggestions

Jade Empire, DoA2:UA and DoA3. It's also handy as a media centre to hook up to your TV.
Either F, or sell it to me for few bucks. :)
you could send me the dvd rom.. :p but anyway, theres not really a whole lot you can do with it, if your not interested in games. I guess if you want a basic 2nd computer, you can throw linux on it.
Option C, definatly option C

/me loves seeing stuff burn...

"ooh, look at that granny"
Option A, Mod the damn thing! You don't even need a chip, just hot swap the damn thing install linux and you should be all set.

Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shin Megami Tensei, DOA:XBV, Fable, Sonic Heroes (unless you enjoy the slowiness of the PS2 port or the bugs of the PC version)... there are others but I am not into console gaming nowadays.
G
I'd say "Option G: Send it to Bobbi so he can try if modding a x-box is really that hard" is by far the best :)
Keep it, it might be handy as a bullet proof device :p
Bobbi: option G isnt that hard. just do soft mods. i managed to do it :)
Put the DC hardware in it and shock the world with the first DC emulator for Xbox :p

Or even better: Go for the PS2 hardware and claim it's an emulator
MOD the thing. We are pleased with the results of our own. It is a nice lil "do many a thing" box

DWXbox doubles as our Emu Kit, DVD / VCD player, Jukebox, PC / Server, etc

It has become our new preferred way to emulate (even moreso the Dreamcast) since it automatically interfaces with our wide screen TV, and the controllers work perfectly. We are immensely pleased with Sega CD / T16CD emulation. It runs the CD games as if it were the actual console. Our Sega CD can now be sealed away for memories ;)
darkwatcher have you soft modded or do you have a chip, if so which one

and as far as what to do with it, use it as a dvd, mp3 player etc (media station)

edit: heck if you dont want it that bad, mail that sucker my way, Ill obviously pay shipping and more unless of course you dont like the whole idea
Xbox honestly isn't that bad. There are so many things you can do with it(once it's modded.). Soft modding isn't even hard. All you need to do is connect the Xbox hard drive to your computer's connector, and do some swapping. It's really quite easy. You'll need some Torx screwdrivers though.
eh...damn memory..
Using Evolution X...cannot recall the actual chipset
Also slapped a 60GB HDD in there..would have gone larger, but didn't want to spend the money at the time. Besides...we are not even making a dent in the current drive.
oh I see
did you install it yourself? if so was it very difficult
modding the xbox is supposed to be easy. There are solderless modchips for the xbox.
You can give/sell it to me, and I'll make it an emulation station...ha...I wish I had stuff liek that given to me...
We know of a talented young man. Both he and his brothers have interesting hobbies. Unfortunately ole DW's solder hands are not quite as steady as they used to be :)
