As most of you would know, I used to own ( and I still do :p ) a Geforce 2 100/200 MX 64mb vram gfx card. It served me well up till now, it was even capable of running UT2003/2004 and Halo at acceptable speeds. I passed by Staples today to find a few offers on computer hardware items. I was first tempted to get a GFX 5500 for 99.99 CAN (without tax). But then I thought I'd throw another 100 and grab the GFX 5700 instead. I payed 275 bucks on total, 40 which will return back to me after rebate.

I came back home and installed the new card. Everything seems smooth and dandy. The following are the specifications :

-GPU : Nvidia GeForce FX 5700LE
-Manufacturer : BFG Tech
-Bus Type : AGP (2x/4x/8x)
-Memory : 256 Mb DDR
-CoreClock : 275 Mhz ( vs 250 Mhz standard - Yes, it's overclocked- )
-RAMDACs : Dual 400 Mhz
-API support : MS DirectX 9.0 and lower, OpenGL 1.5 and lower for MS windows
-Connectors : VGA,S-Video out
-Vertices/Sec : 206 million

and it comes with a true life time warranty & 24/7 free email technical support.

So opinions anyone? Was it worth every buck I payed, or was I ripped off? And how good is the FX 5700 incomparison to the high-end cards nowadays?
Thanks.

Yours,
-Elly

No, I didnt even touch it :p It was overclocked by the manufacturers themselves ( heck it's even written on the cover, lol ).

Well considering that you had a GF2 it was a leap to own a GFX 5700 but for 34 CAD more you could have gotten something better than that.

You should always do reseach on hardware b4 u buy. you got ripped off. the 5700LE is Slower then a 5200ultra. if it was the 57000 normal then it be diffent but its not.

in the future Research b4 you buy. it will save you in the long run. the 9600XT is faster then the 5700LE which can be had for like 200bucks.

or if u saved atleast $389 you could had this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-364&depa=1 (Sappire X800pro oem)( or save 415 and get vivo and bios flash it to XT PE)

or this

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-130-202&depa=1

$285 (EVGA 6800NU)

Please remember that he said CAD not USD. So that would be a boatload more expensive in Canada.

Elly you did get ripped off. Stores here in Calgary are selling 256mb 9600pro's for $140(CAD). Enjoy your upgrade though, its a nice upgrade from your gf2.

Eek. A 5700LE for that much.. yuck. While a major upgrade, you got majorly ripped off. Even a regular 9600 would tear that thing to shreads.. you should have went to Calgary. :p

I dont know what the actual difference is between US and Canadian dollars, but Elly I am sure Staples shafted you on that card. Moral of the story: dont buy computer hardware from Staples.

oopsie doopsie !!!

5700 LE ???? :innocent: I was also about to get that one but instead I settled for much cheaper and faster Ti 4200 8x Gamers Edition from XFX.

Anyways, try overclocking, it always help. Even if you get your card burned you will have to get a new card. ;)
And what others say doesnt matter. If you are satisfied with the performance of your new card you should feel satisfied with your deal.

Uh.. the 5700 LE is faster or equal to a Ti4200.

I'd say slightly faster. I have a friend with one and it performs exactly as I predicted it would, about +15 fps in most games compared to mine. Its holding back the rest of his rig though, a mobile Athlon clocked at 2 ghz, 512 MB ram and 80 GB HD. If he had a 6800 in that rig of his it would run mine over big time.

its not. faster nor = to a GF4ti4200. the 5700 normal is. but the LE aint.

i read many reviews on the 5700LE for a buddy to stop him from making the same mistake.

Your thinking about the 5700 normal. the LE is slower then a 5200Ultra and is near a 9200., while the normal 5700 is faster if not = to a GF4Ti4200.
the 5700 Ultra is faster then a GF4Ti4200.

i was only saying he got ripped off and to do reviews in the future, i wasn't downing him or any thing. i was giving him advice to do research in the future b4 buying stuff so you know what your getting.

Err.. I understand the difference between a normal and an LE.

As far as specs go, the 5700LE is superior in memory bandwidth while equal in core clock/pipelines. A nice overclock would easily put it past the Ti4200. Maybe not in heavy PS apps though. :p
