Good speed + good graphics = problem

I just can't decide which video plugin is the best, the problem is that when i choose Pete's Open GL2 Driver 2.6, the graphics are quite good (actually i'm still wondering if it's really the same graphics that the Playstation shows, i can't remember how good were the graphics when i played the same game i'm playing now with ePSXe), but the speed decreases quite well, i'm playing Parasite Eve, and, do you know the heart beat before the battles? I can't even hear the sound as good as i heard when i first played it on Playstation, another proof that i'm suffering of slowdowns is the time counter, he takes more than a second to mark one second in the game. But, in the other hand, when i tried Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.75, the speed was normal (i'll say it again, i THINK it's normal cause i don't remember exactly how it was on the PSX), but the graphic were a little bad compared to the other plugin. So i want to know the following things: 1. Is there a way to make the both things, speed and graphics, good? 2. Does ePSXe emulates games with graphics even better than the PSX (i heard that it does), or it is really my problem?

What video plugin is the best depends on what your video card is. If it's a recent Nvidia then you should stick with the OGL2 and lower the settings a bit to improve speeds. But if it's ATI then you'll probably want to switch to Pete's d3d driver. How good it looks depends mostly on your settings. It can and usually will be better on PC than the Playstation but sometimes textures won't be as good. 3D figures are much better on the ePSXe though.
Indeed : tell us your computer's specs at first and your config
Well, i tried to put the "fast" config of the GL2, and even so, the speed isn't so good. That's ok guys, i'll use Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.75, no problem, the graphics are just a little worse than the ones of GL2, but, if you really want to help me, my computer is really bad:

Athlon XP 1700, 1.46 GHz, 256 MB
NVIDIA Geforce2 MX 400

Now, the plugin configs, i put "nice", but i also tried "fast", like i said, but it didn't work.
Do a copy-paste of your config video, it will help us. As for the sound use Eternal spu plugin 1.41 (be sure to enable sound adpcm cdda xa)

Uh... a geForce 2? That's gonna run far far better in Pete's OpenGL 1.x. The OpenGL 2.x plugin is designed for Dx9 based hardware, like the Radeon 9500 and above, or the nVidia 5200 and above (although the 5200 is so crap you need at least a 5700 to run OGL2.x acceptably).
You have a Dx7 part. A part for which OpenGL 1.x was designed. Yuo are better off playing with your OGL1.x settings than trying to get OGL2.x running. Hell, my geForce 3 hated it enough.
I knew it! Thanks Kane, and you guys too! And thank god that i'm not the kind of guy who think that the most important part of a RPG are the graphics!
Ogl 1.75 can look fairly good with a bit of tweaking, though. Post your current 1.75 specs so we can help you tweak it.
Ok then...

thats basically the nice preset :p

and that's probably as good as it gets, the GF2mx doesnt have much in the way of AA...

oh yeah and turn off odd/even bit hack. i dont know why everyone insists on using it.
Try these

Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Window mode <- I think you could raise this, but it's more a matter of personal prefference
[32 Bit]- Keep psx aspect ratio: off

Textures:
- R8G8B8A8
- Filtering: 0 <- in many games your card will be able to handle 4 or even 6
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3
- Framebuffer texture: 0 <-|
- Framebuffer access: 4 <-|--This will get you back some lost effects, stressing a bit your cpu but relieving the gfx card... a good tradeoff considering your system.
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: on

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- 15 bit FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: off
- Screen cushion: off
- Game fixes: on [00001000]

Your system is almost like mine was before replacing the gf 2 with the 9500, and could run those settings @ 1024x768 with next to no problems :) .
