How does it's story tie in with the original movie?
Is the story before or after the movie?

Bato seems different in this series compared to the movie.
He was a tough guy that was very careful and now he seems careless and a joker.

What's up with that?

it was made after the movie, but afaik the story takes place before it. I read in a review on anidb that it's recommended to watch this before the movie. I'm actually watching it now :p I'm at ep 17 now ;)

SAC pwns the movie. the movie was interesting, but rather bland and dry as far as character development and the overall feeling you get. SAC is fecking excellent, it keeps you glued to the tube. plus, the Catcher in the Rye tie-ins kept me very interested, that's one of my favorite books of all time :)

definitely a must watch.

PS. i watched SAC before i saw the movie. nothin' wrong with it

AFAIK GitS & GitS2 Innocence have nothing to do with Stand Alone Complex and should be treated as two seperate entities that share the same characters and universe.

Also I watched the 1st movie before Stand Alone Complex and I watched Innocence i think about 18 episodes into Stand Alone Complex.

Same here. GitS is definitely my favorite anime franchise. As far as SAC is concerned, it excels in all areas -- presentation, story, characters, music (everything was written by Yokko Kanno). I'm sure you can find an anime that may be better in one of those categories, but not all of them.

As far as order is concerned, it doesn't really matter. You may want to read the GitS manga, though, since the first movie is based off of it.

I think I like 2nd Gig more than the first season because of the story line. I can't wait to see how it ends (only 2 episodes left!)
