I did some fooling around and I came up with a Gameboy Mono color preset that looks very similar to the actual colors on the screen of a real Gameboy. I know that everyone has moved on to GBA but it would still be cool to have that as a preset for people that still play GB games (me being one of them).Plus emulation is about making things act as the real thing, right? Do anyone think this is worth putting into the VBA as one of the presets?

Here are the colors:
Options>Gameboy>Colors...

Background
Color 1: R=160 G=192 B=32
Color 2: R=134 G=160 B=27
Color 3: R=106 G=128 B=21
Color 4: R=64 G=64 B=64

Sprite
Color 1: R=160 G=192 B=32
Color 2: R=134 G=160 B=27
Color 3: R=106 G=128 B=21
Color 4: R=64 G=64 B=64

Compare it and try it out.

Looks too green IMO, I think the GB mono had a more washed out looking green. (I could be mistaken though, I've only seen GB monos in store displays.)

What I like to do is set the colors to simulate the gameboy color. You can set up to 8 different colors, and if you choose your colors carefully, you can make it look as though the game was designed for the color system instead of the mono one.

I actually set the contrast in the middle on my real Gameboy and compared the colors to get a similar look. Its pretty close to the original when you compare.

as for the fake gbc colors, can you tell me the RGB or HSL of the colors you used?
I tried to set them from what I saw in the pic and I did it very well if I do say so myself, but I clicked on reset instead of ok by accident >_<
Thanks.

A bunch of screens of diff games with these colors: http://allspark.net/cypherswipe/pseudo-color.htm
In this screen, the 2 dark shades of red I had chosen wound up fitting spiderman's costume perfectly:

The same colors, but with the BG reddish and the sprites blueish instead of the other way around:

The gameboy emulator BGB has 4 different things that you can set colors for, for a grand total of 16 colors, here's a couple screens:

BGB also has 3 different all-green preset themes:

Not really, the stupid color picker resets to black when I try to go back and change the colors, so I have to pick it from scratch again. That's why I posted the pic of the colors so that people could just match up the screenshot (it's what I do when I try to re-create it). Here's my recreation numbers (in the format RED.GREEN.BLUE):
The blue colors:
23.254.255 * 132.253.217 * 44.29.233 * 113.5.139
The red colors:
253.254.207 * 250.225.56 * 216.96.7 * 164.11.49

Came up with another theme (2 variants actually), click the images to go to a page full of screens:

Note how you don't have to stick with one color range for all 4 sprite or window colors. Most games use the palette in such a way that you can use alternating colors (ie blue-green-blue-green) and it will usually look good. This is especially true of the sprites.

I confirmed by watching videos, that the real colors are similar at the ones pointed by him, I tought they were more washed out cause the BGB emulator has them like that, but in the original hardware they look "very" greenish
