Ok iv gone through a couple posts now, fixing my mdecs, fixing how i cant c a third party member, choosing the right plug-in, windowed or full screen, ETC ETC ETC!

hopefully to be my last problem with gpu, when i decided to try full screen i saw nothign but blocky "rendered" backrounds, i was then told to adjust my setting and turn fsaa x4 on, i did, and WALA no more blocky backrounds, but OH it was just to easy (my computer is not without a sense of irony), now that everything looks primo and fine i get a slowdown problem, it seems that with fsaa everything runs as though it was in SLOW MOTION! it is almost as if theres like a 10-20 framerate! but i have it set!!

anyways, heres a pic of my settings, i dont know if they r right, but they r waht i have set, please help me with changes, i dont want it to look poor, i was BEST image quality, but i want it to run smoothly also, but wiht most everything im probably ntoa ble to achieve the two at once, so please help me out with some suggestions.

is 16bit the standard for psx games?? liek 32bit is just a waste of time and resources?

hrmmm,,,,

Try this... First knock your resolution down a peg, (eg 640x480 or 800x600)

If that doesn't work then also set Caching type to Dynamic.

Then try setting the FBT (Frame Buffer Textures) to Black.

See if any (or all) of this) helps

Eh... sorry bout that, my puter was messing up.... okay then, hmmm here are my settings... see if any of this hellps at all

(and brtw, stick w/ fullscreen mode... i think OGL windowed is skow all by itself)

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.56
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: GeForce2 GTS/AGP/SSE

Resolution/Color:
- 800x600 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing
- Keep psx aspect ratio: on

Textures:
- R8G8A8A8
- Filtering: 6
- Caching: 2

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3
- Framebuffer texture: 2
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: on

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Full vram: off
- Game fixes: off [00000001]

I take it the other settings didn't help?

[EDIT:] I just noticed you have Full VRAM Primitives on... That is also another thing that could knock it down, keep that off unless absolutely neccasary

No,1.56 are available.
Also,FSAA requires a lot of memory bandwith, that's why everything slows down,if I were you I'd try to play at the higher rsolution possible without FSAA and with filtering set on 6(as it is already as I can see).
My card can do FSAA but I think it looks much better in 1280x1024 without FSAA.

That may be true for 3d stuff.. But 2d at that resolution is quite pixelated.. Which is probably what he wants to fix by enabling FSAA.. Sadly he doesn't realize that 640x480 is the best resolution for 2d backgrounds in FF8.. And FSAA with a 640x480 resolution should not slow down his games that much.. My voodoo 5 can do it at full speed..

Now that you can set the color depht to 16 bit and turn on dithering image, that could get to you great graphics whit more speed, and like the guys in here said already, put fullscreen to 640x480 whit 4xFSAA on, and Disable Full Vram Primitives,,, maybe getting FrameBuffer textures to Black, but this will get most of the GFX off,,,,,,,, and Getting it to GFX card buffer is not that slow so try this, if you get bad aspect I didn´t say anything ^^

FSAA is en/disabled in the driver configuration of your display driver, I don't know how to do it in a Voodoo card (I think you have to launch the 3dfx Tools and find it in there) but on nVidia chipsets you can go to:

start > Control panel > Display > settings > Click the advanced' button > Click the name of your card (Mine's a GeForce 2 TI, yours may be different) > Click the 'Additional properties' button, Click the "3D Antialiasing settings" tab and select "Allow other applications to control the Antialiasing mode"

I think FSAA affects the entire screen, not only 3D objects. That's why it's called Full-Scene Anti-Aliasing. What it basically does is takes the scene at a higher resolution (640x480 @ 4xFSAA renders the image at 1280x960), then samples it down using bilinear filtering (affects the entire scene) to the output resolution, making everything less pixellated.

There is quite an impact on performance though, as you can imagine. You're basically playing the game at 1280x960. 2xFSAA uses a slightly lower source resolution (960x720 @ 640x480) so it has less of a performance impact.

I can usually play games perfectly at 640x480 with 4xFSAA on so that's my optimal setting for now. Even at resolutions of 1024x768 I can still see too many aliasing artifacts.

pHANTOMpHREAK, try all the suggestions people've posted here and also try 2xFSAA. It looks only slightly worse than 4xFSAA but it may give you that extra speed you need.
