I'm running the latest version of the terrific web browser Firefox 1.0.6 and have noticed that sometimes, for seemingly unknown reasons, it would raise it's CPU use in task manager from 02-13 to an unreasonable 46-52 percent.

This naturally causes my CPU to heat up. It stays for a while and then returns to normal as if nothing had happened. I was just wondering what could be the reason for this.

Thanks in advance!! :)

flash especially... sites like gamespot.com or anandtech.com which have quite a few flash applets as advertisement areas (and their advertisers make the ads as flashy as possible) really can start eating up cpu resources, esp with firefox.

I've noticed gamespot.com can use close to 70% of my resources under firefox, but then again, I only have a 1.5 GHz p4
