Many of you will be aware of the screenshots published on the main PCSX2 website. PCSX2 has made vast improvements since the 0.7 release.

Recently saqib has been working on fixing Final Fantasy X. He has managed to get the textures looking far more accurate, and more polygons actually being drawn! [Update by Bobbi:] And now, we got even some high quality shots for our visitors (especially the first one) - enjoy:

Well, yes we are gonna see one, in the near future?, i really doubt it, because we don't have the technical ways to do it (hardware and software), so you should wait a couple of years, (or before if some genious came out from of middle of nowher and give us a really good couple of new emulation approaches :))

I really don't know if they are or not genious themself, i have only talked with linuzappz and expert a few times, and they are certainly too much brilliants, but I don't know if I can call them genious (and not, i'm not understimate them, they have my respect). But i really mean with that (and it was obvious you understood too :p) was we need some new approaches in order to be able to improve the current emulation speed and not be depending on hardware enhancement, if they are those genious, that would be great, if they aren't, no problem but his work is amazing aswell.

Then check the main thread in the PCSX2 forums, you may like to see that with VUrec we can get 11-14 FPS, and the VUrec is only doing one VU core, it's half finished, and the emulator is very un-optimised ;)

cooliscool - ever heard of a magical thing called "makes your game go really slow"?

You are aware that the FSAA would slow the emulator down to like 0.1 fps right, AA in genral always slow this stuff down but in the emulators case it would probably die

Uh.. no.

PCSX2 (or any other emulator.. past about the GF4 Ti stage), is not GPU limited whatsoever.. it's reliant completely on CPU/Memory horsepower for now.. turning FSAA to the max wouldn't slow down PCSX2 in the slightest.

i beg to differ, previous i had ben using a geforce 5600 to run the pcsx2 and was getting about 5fps, now with my new geforce 6600GT im getting about 14-20 all in bios of course. now i know most of the lacking of speed comes from cpu/memory management but that video isnt optimized eithier, FSAA will slow the emulator down whether you like it or not. BTW: post a video awhile ago of my bios in action with new card, didnt post one of my old card cause it was TOO SLOW.

Using Pixel Shader 2.0 that would be true. The GeforceFX series is very poor in that regard, and GSDX9 makes heavy use of it.. try using Fixed Fuction on your FX? Try enabling FSAA on your 6600GT and see how big of a difference it really makes. ;)

The 6 series are great on the other hand, which is why your FPS improved.

yes ive tried the fixed function and thats an obvious slow down which proves my point that part of the speed of the emulator is gpu related, FSAA would slow it down, but as it is late i must get to bed, when 0.8 comes out ill be posting more videos and test. I'll be sure to do tests between FSAA and not.

cooliscool, that was taken with 4xAA, but GSdx renders to a 1024x1024 max resolution, that image was stretched to my monitor res of 1280x1024, thus pixelated :(

Coolsvilleman: PCSX2 is 99.99% CPU / memory dependant. Whilst PS2.0 will cause a slowdown on FX series cards (like my damn'd FX5950u), it will run well on a 6xxx series cards. An easy test of PCSX2 being CPU dependant, well wack on FSAA to it's max, get every other funky tweak you can possibly imagine, it'll run at the same speed, turn it all off it'll run at the same speed. Run at a res of 320x240, and then at 1600x1200, same speed ;)

A personal example:

Final Fantasy X: int at 1280x1024: 0.89 - 1.53 FPS
Final Fantasy X: eeREC at 1280x1024: 1.98 - 2.36 FPS
Final Fantasy X: vuREC at 1280x1024: 11.10 - 14.56 FPS

Modern cards can easily handle well in excess of 20,000 PPF (polygons per frame), yet PCSX2 will run a game with that kind of VU, CPU load at a mear 5 FPS when using the fastest mode available (vuREC).
