yeah, it really looks like it got some cool funding for it. but i think it's a flop.

yeah, i was kinda dissapointed w/ what they did w/ the FF movie, but I don't think that 'not staying true to it's game counterparts,' affected the profits made, since you would have to see the movie to find that out, and word-of-mouth wouldn't have much stopping power.

This would be common for films that are SF classics. eg Both Blade Runner and 2001 both did bad at the box office because they are both complex with hidden meanings. However it is for these reasons also that they are as popular now (esp 2001 I can't find a copy of the collectors edition anywhere)

The final fantasy movie has the same qualities a good underlying story with a secret hidden meaning which is subtly revealed in a truely excellent ending.

Completely wrong. Every other movie that has been based on a game has followed the rules set by that game. The result? The film is absolute tribe. Look at tomb raider. It has everything that the game has (apart from a t-rex) yet is sadly lacking. Don't even get me started on Super Mario.

Anyways how could they stay true to the game? There are practically no similarities between each of the games in the series. Of course there is a charactor called cid which is also in the movie (although spelt sid :spy: ). So there are enough similarities for it to be called Final Fantasy.

well i guess it DID have some FF game elements... the scenery looks like the Esthar region after it got bombed by monsters from the moon in FF8. :)

Though I'm hardly qualified to make such an assertion, but does anyone else feel that Square might have gotten a better response if they had advertised a bit more? I know quite a few people that never saw the advertisements and just gave me a blank look when I told them about it.

Of course, I didn't get a chance to see it anyway, what with school and all...
