Hello all;

Could any one pose a solution to fix an annoying slowdown which occurs everytime a spell is used in FFT?

Using software rendering fixes it, but the 3d landscape quality is compromised which id rather avoid if possible.

There are a number of threads touching on the problem but all of them seem to just die off without any real conclusion or fix...?

Im using GeForce 8800 GTS with petes 3d plugin...

Any help will be much appreciated....:thumb:

its a 2d game, configure the peopsoft plugin, or try the GSDX for PSX.

The game works best with the peopsoft plugin regardless.

Post your plugin's configuration.
If you're using Hi-res texture modes, disable it.
If you're using high internal resolutions in Pete's OGL2 (plugin you should be using), use Render Mode 2.... and cannot say much without the config info.

Won't help at all KrossX, the 3D plugins just aren't good for drawing sprites and perpixel drawn backgrounds.

Well, I remember not having any slowdown on that game. So there must be something about it. In Xenogears, I remember that hi-res texture modes caused me some slowdowns on attacks/spells wich is also 3D with sprite characters.

But I would rather use OGL2 than PEOpS on this one, backgrounds are 3D and.... I'm just addicted to the AA_Bloom. XD

Kross X, regrettably your suggestions didnt work, but thanks anyway....

How about a psp emulator? the high res landscapes seem to be delivered quite well on the psp hardware, i wonder if an emulator would compete?

Its a strange problem that doesnt seem to affect everyone, i wonder what it is??

Hmmmmmmm.....

Well.... with that high internal resolution, set Render mode to 2 and disable the gamefixes.
Also, if you're gonna use such low screen resolution, you could reduce the internal resolution.

If you're using ePSXe v1.7.0, disable fps limit on the plugin.

I remember playing with similar settings and no slowdown at all.
I'll try to find the game and test it.

Even if i set everything to the lowest possible settings, making the game a blury mess, i still get slowdown?

It doesn't happen at all on vandal hearts, which is almost identical graphically??

Quite odd, I've just tried up to the first battle wich has some skills and spells being casted, and there was no slowdown at all. Not even when using 2xSal.

Settings are:

1280x960 Fullscreen
Internal resolution: 2,2
Render mode: 2

Using 2xSal
Compatibility modes 1-2-1
Using AA_Bloom shader
No gamefix enabled.

If you're playing in a 640 x 480 window, you might as well use a software plug-in. The software plug-in is very accurate and speedy. The best advantage to the hardware plug-ins is to push the resolution higher, like 1280 x 960... or even higher than that.
