Hello! I'm new to the board, and I can't help but notice that the information in your ePSXe topics are quite useful.

Here is my current FF9 status:

I just bought FF9 (PSX) off of EBay because it seems FF9 won't be coming out for the PC. The cd's are in the mail, and I want to have ePSXe configured when it arrives. So basically, I need configuration help.

I have a AMD-K6-2 500 megahertz cpu.
I have an aweful SIS video chipset that DOESN'T support 3D above Directx 7.0a (I have 8.0).
My soundcard shouldn't be a problem.
I have 128 Megs of ram.

I downloaded ePSXe 1.4.0. I am using Pete's Software gpu. I am also using Pete's MIDAS SPU 1.7 for sound. My bios is scph1001. The bios seems to run fine, but I don't have a PSX game to test (yet). What configuration would work with my system?

I posted a new thread, because nobody here seemed to be using a Software gpu. Everyone seems to have a nice 3d video card. Maybe others are out there dying to know what I want to know as well. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well basically with a setup like that you just go with what you think will look the best for you. There are still lots of people using Pete's software plug-in I am sure. Also I recommend converting over to Iori's sound plug-in, as Pete's MIDAS is old and doddering. Other than that, all I can recommend is just read the threads and wait! Though I do think you could use Pete's d3d plug-in. If the regular one doesn't work, use the dx6 one.

petes d3d dx6 that can use direct x 6 so......
just dont use any fancy tricks in your setup .turn your resolution down and dont use any filtering and I think you can play the game (just) fine.

Not necessarily. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Pete's GPU's use DirectX 7.0 at the most. Your card should still work with them. I've never seen a card suddenly "forget" how to use 3d acceleration simply because directx was updated. In any case, definitely search for updated drivers for the card. Good luck.

I know it may sound like I am completely computer illeterate, but I checked SIS's website and Google.com and many other have had the same problem. The real reason why it's not working is because my chipset doesn't support auto-update from directx. In other words, a new set of drivers must come out when a new directx comes out. And the fact that SIS is a company full of lazy people doesn't help. They didn't update my chipset's drivers for Directx 8 or Directx 8.0a for that matter.

Using the DirectX 7.0 (or whatever version you want) installer might downgrade DirectX. A definite, sure-fire way is to reinstall windows as long as you're not using WinME or Win2000. A Windows reinstall will reset DirectX to Version 6.0 at the lowest.

I suppose you've used the DirectX Diagnostic tool before, then
(It's in C:\Program Files\DirectX\Setup if you haven't before). Anyway, there's a tab that lists ALL of the DirectX files that are currently on the system. In theory, you could reinstall windows, open the diagnostic tool; find the orphaned DX8 files that still exist, then systematically delete them. That should make DX6 happy. You could then update to DX7, since 6.1 did not support hardware acceleration for DirectMusic.

Well, you could look at the "Explain Setting" button for each of the options in lewpys plugin. That should give you a little more information on what that card can do with those settings.

A voodoo1, you say? Wow; i thought Voodoo1 boards were only used by developers to experiment with the (at the time) revolutionary idea of 3D acceleration. I didn't know they sold them.
