FFVIII Config

3232 Views 41 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  cloudstrife3733
ok, So after reading everything about the OGL2 config for this game Ive gotten much further then I would of without reading, but I noticed there was no clear out answer as to what config is the absolute best to date so I figured I might ask if this has been established and what is the config??

The config I have runs it pretty well but I still get nasty looking transition from world map to battle scenes, and the flicker by the ATB meter.I havent played the game in some time but I cant help to think when I did, it looked better in the older version of epsxe or an older version of the OGL plugin.
Anyways if anyone can help with this and maybe give me the best and the final results of the config it would be appreciated thanx.Current config is as follow.

compatibility is wrong.
what's it supposed to be 1-2-2?
Yes, ;) the gamefixes indicate it right.

enable gamefix 0x1 as well, it speeds up the battleswirl slightly.
yeah, true but only reason I had it set to 1-3-1 is because I noticed in the sticky someone used 1-3-1 setting and it was working well. But ok Ill try it out as far as everything else its all set right?
1-3-1 doesn't do anything but introduce a slowdown, 1-3-0 just makes the GF Eden summon motion blur work, at the expensive of killing the full battle swirl... though it goes fast as a compromise...
since I changed it to 1-2-2 that flickering bar turned into a black flickering bar on the ATB meter. So whats causing this now??
enable tex win pixel shader.
I tried this and the same thing happens, anymore suggestions??
Kanes config is wrong, infact it goes against the config defined by the gamefix.
well I guess you can say its semi-wrong it helped with the ATB meter thats perfect now but I get major slow downs at the begining of battle scenes and the infamous rainbow color.Im having a feeling Im going to have to live with one or the other right?
make sure you have Catalyst 9.3.1 installed.
then use this

Works perfectly on my SIL's Radeon 3200 series.
I tried this and made sure I had catalyst drivers 9.3.1 Since I changed it back from kanes settings it fixed the battle swirl but still have the ATB meter Black flickering bar.
it has to be something to do with the ATI drivers >.<

using 9.8 on the 3200 series in the laptop and theres no black square, nor has there ever been on any of my nv boards.

you aren't loading a state are you?... not that it should matter of course...

also, are you forcing AA or AF at all in the CCC?
Nah,I dont use save states I use the regular in game saving though, and as far as AA and AF no as well on that too, I dont run ccc to often.

Whats weird is if I do use kanes settings they fix the problem with the flickering box well, but it causes the problem of the battle swirl major drop in fps and rainbow color.I was thinking though what if I rolled back my catalyst drivers?
yeah :p, it has to be related to the texture issues in 9.3

Ok, if someone can provide me the driver inf from 9.3.1, and the one from 9.8 i can hack support into the driver for older cards.
Though the driver will have to be manually installed, since the installer won't force a non WHQL driver over a whql driver.
I can try how would I go about obtaining the info??
the Inf files are within the unpacked \driver\ folder in C:\Ati
theres a file here with the setup info of the drivers labeled CX_80420 is that it? theres actually that one and another labeled CA_80420.
post both of them from the 9.3 and 9.8 kits.
Ok,I need to download 9.8 cause I dont have it right now 9.3 was the highest for my card.
:) we'lll once im done with 9.8 it should install fine on there :p
Awesome,ok here it goes.

9.3

o_O thats not the inf i need.

the one i need lists all the Radeon model numbers.
damn,were would that be?
i said :p its in the Drivers directory.... under um... components? lol i can't remember.

Just search the entire folder for *.inf and send the ones that list the VEN and DEV numbers, and lists all the names at the end of the file.
ok I think I found it
yeah, might be too big for to post as text though, so just attach it in a zip.

you are looking for a file which has lines like this though

%NVIDIA_NV44.DEV_016A.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_016A
and
NVIDIA_NV44.DEV_016A.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 7100 G

except it would say ATI, and Radeon, and be different numbers :p
yeah,it was to big so here it is,both 9.3.1 and 9.8
unpack the attached into the 9.8 folder and then install the driver manually via device manager.

no guarantee's it'll work though, but it should.
ok,thats cool even if it doesnt work thank you.
oh and yeah... restore point first ;), just in case the thing won't boot with the new driver.
well it was to late for that lol I already restarted, but Im here so it booted ok.So is there anything else I need to change before I go back and try it out??
...pfft... DirectX 10 cards only, my arse. i knew it was just like nvidia's drivers, UDA, except the cards are missing.

im gunna go kick Terrry makedon in the balls.

well, unfortunetly it didnt help the black flickering bar in the ATB meter, but it is working it boot just fine with the driver, thank you for trying though squall I appreciate the time trying to help.
Its very strange then, really.

all those settings together should really work.
the only other thing it could be is the x16xx doesn't support a certain extension :\
maybe, not to sure what it is but I was thinking I should just try to use an older driver or maybe Just deal with the slowdown at the start of the battle screen Id rather deal with that then that black flickering bar that s*** would get annoying lol.
