FF9, Slow-down in world map.

I just installed the latest nVidia offical detonator 23.11 for my riva tnt2 m64 card.

Now, whenever I enter the worldmap, it slow down a lot, I can only get 30-40 FPS. I just dun wanna switch back to the pervious driver because I do notice a lot of speed up when in battle, which I can get 55 to 59.9 FPS all the time.

I am using Pete 's openGL plugin 1.55 plugin, and here is my setting:

try D3DX6

i tried to use this pete's D3Dx6 plugin
Try using Pete's D3D instead, and here:

- 640x480 Fullscreen - Desktop changing [32 Bit]

use 16 Bits instead... you won't notice any diference since you're already using - R8G8A8A8.

It will only reduce preformece using 32 Bits :)
I tried D3D plugin, , the worldmap is ok, but the battle is a bit slower than OpenGL. thanks anyway :)
Looks like you need some more vram or somethin :p
could u tell me the settings i would need? My battle menu does the same thing

That's not good.. He only has an ATI rage pro.. Ogl is very slow on those video cards.. Thantos.. Have you updated your video card drivers? That video card is rather old.. Maybe it's time you get a new graphics card..
i thought so too.. which one would u suggest?
You could try the software plugins. It fixed all of my problems regarding FF9. It might run kinda slow on a Pentium II 333
umm.. i dont quite understand what a software plugin is care to explain?

Software gpu pluggins just doesn't use hardware accelleration.. So you get graphics like playing psx games on VGS.. They usually run faster and better for people who don't have a good video card.. There are several available for use in psx emulators including epsxe.. You can get them at the ngemu psx downloads section..

Software pluggins are also great for fully 2d fighting games..

If you do want to upgrade to a better vid card, you should think about getting a better cpu as well... Most current video cards today won't run at full performance on your current cpu.. You could try upgrading to a geforceMx.. Make sure your computer has an agp port though.. If not then get a pci video card..
thantos, listen well, mebbe others should as well....

turn filtering OFF. what do you need it for? no need for it.

try dithering in 16 bit colour mode.

turn mask bit on and off.

btw... does everyone know that all of pete's plugins have an ingame configure like kazz's soft plugin?

As with all of petes pluggins, press "delete" to access the ingame menu options.. "page-up" "page-down" switches to which options and "end", "home" toggles the options.. You did know this is all in the readme that comes with petes soft pluggin didn't you? Guess not.. RTM..

Filtering is great for 3d games.. But isn't so great with 2d stuff.. Don't believe me, check out this shot of FF9 with filtering\without sprites..
Here is the shot.. of FF9 with Filtering enabled on 3d..
