I have 2 questions re: Final Fantasy IX

First, the game slows down like a bitch whenever it reads from the CD-ROM (Right before and after a battle, between scens, etc.) The game would be almost perfectly smooth if it weren't for this. Even the battle swirl! :D

Second, there's an option which helps when the game slows down as magic is being performed. What is it? (if turning it off also takes away the battle swirl, f'get about it;)

Havin' trouble emulating FF7? FF8 givin' you the blues? Buy the bloody PC version!!!!!! Looks way better than any emulated version could, especially if your 3D card has anti-aliasing. Plus, it's only $13-20, depending (Costco wholesale rocks! :D ). And if that's not enough, for FF7, you get free wallpapers and easily copiable movies in AVI format; and for FF8, you get really, really high quality movies and the chocobo (kawaii!) world minigame (using it, I maxed out several stats for all charcters, and got their best weapons by disc 2!). Don't delay!

About the slow down because of disc access,it's normal and it depends on your drive(make an ISO and run it this way,no more slow down).
About the option to help when it's slow,I believe it's frame skipping,it's the second option in the in-game menu of pete's plugin.

FSAA works in epsxe too........ check the screenshots section where FSAA is used in the games....... I would like to get the pc version of the games just to see what I am missing but by the looks of it, I am not missing much........ Plus when magic is used in the fights, they are loaded from the cd...... Make an iso and run it from that will speed everything up.......

I have the PC and the PSX version of Final Fantasy VIII and I can say that the PSX version in ePSXe 640x480 16bits 2xFSAA looks better than the pc version at the same resolution (the biggest resolution for that game) and the same amount of AA.

Sorry about the sys info:

Athlon 700MHz
192 MB RAM
VooDoo5 AGP 64 MB
SB Live X-Gamer
Creative PC-DVD 12x(40X) at UDMA 33
iOmega CD-RW 8x4x32x at LBA Mode4

Any CD driver wll do.

About the ISO thing, that's a good idea except for one thing: What the heck are you talkin' about?! I don't understand the words comin' out of the screen. En ingles, por favor.

I didn't say FSAA did't work on ePSXe (I use it for IX). But the emulated 3D looks kinda . . . disconnected and loose. Just my personal ranting about the thing. If they're having so much trouble emulating them, why not just buy the PC versions? Little or no problems. And the movies look better in VIII. Ah, well . . . . . .

ISO's are referred to when talking about imaging CD's. Basically its like storing all of the RAW data the CD contains into a file on your hard disk. Since the access time for you hard drive is faster than your CD drive, it can lead to improved performance. TO make ISO's i suggest CDRWin, a free program that allows you to make it (at least you can download the demo and do it.) Once you have the Image, use Virtual Daemon Mounter to mount the CD as a fake cd-drive or use the ISO feature in EpsxE to use it. Daemon Mounter can be found off the PSXemu.com website. I would also suggest Pete's CD driver since it provides speed limiting and some other nice features. good luck.

I'll give it a whirl, thanks!

{In PC version of VIII, you get Chocoboworld! Not only is it kawaii, it also gives you items you never get in the game, like Ribbon [GF learns to prevent status effects on one character], and you can get tons of other regular items [imagine dozens of Pulse Ammos, Attack Ups or Rosetta Stones]. Just save a copy of the savegame with a lotta goodies in another folder, go in the game to retrieve the itmes, then replace the changed savegame with the original. Repeat as desired. I maxed out my characters Attack and Speed, gave them all Auto-Protect, Shell and Haste, with Ribbon [all have x4 junctioning], etc. You can do all you want. PS don't come with that :p }
