I remember something like that happening to me in ff9.... Same place just that the game froze.... I do have a voodoo 5 too..... I fixed it by using the internal pluggin and enabling sio irq and spu irq.... I was using Nulls spu pluggin at the time(it had better music and sound effects back then)........ After that, I got through that part without any problem.....
