If you're talking about the effect before battles, then you can't do anything, even frameskip won't work, all you can do is play with a software plugin, cause as Pete said many times, these are some effects that are very hard to do in hardware.

How much lag are we talkin about here..... For me that lag is only about 2 seconds, then the fight scene starts up..... Not too much and acceptable to me especially since I am running it from the cd.... YOu could try to run the game from an ISO...... and set framebuffer to black..... not hardware.....

If think you can disable the transition effects by setting "Framebuffer Textures" to "Black".

Just put the framebuffer to black...the only thing you'll be missing is the swirl effect.

You have Crono Cross?

for that game I turn on readbuffer and Vram emulation....that combo works pretty well for Cross, but will kill FF9 after a battle, so don't use it for FF9. Readbuffer is under special game fix....you'll find a fix for FF9 in there, too. If your using 1.5.

Oops, Sorry my mistake....

Saw 8 and read 9, I guess my eye jumped between titles.....that and the fact that Final Fantasy 8 doesn't get mentioned until your post....which was hidden by your large signature.....geez.

FF8PSX isn't something I would have thought worth the bother of emulating on a PC, when there is a Port of it designed to run on a PC...and already in the discount bins.

The only thing I can think of that is different is the music quality.....but that can be easily patched on the PC version, if you know where to look. Guess it's the Blockbuster factor.

too bad......... I got a voodoo 5 5500 and using lewpys' glide pluggin, there is no slowdown before battles whatsoever..... Only the transition but that is fast too(60 fps with no dropping)...... Maybe because my comp is pretty fast....... tbird gig?

On my old computer that had a TNT, Pete's D3D plugin was MUCH faster at transitioning into FF8's battles sequences than his OpenGL plugin.

but on my new computer with a GeForce2 there is hardly any difference.
